It’s pretty straight forward - he was our weakest starter after last season and we upgraded him with a significantly better goalkeeper. ABC 123

If one can interchange outfield players as Guadiola does, why not the keeper? Raya wasn’t flawless in the last match, Ramsdale’s time will come and its up to him to be on top form when it does.

        Lots of football ahead.

Love Rambo, he was the best keeper we’ve had since mad Jens. Until Raya. Raya is better and is not far off from Allison / Ederson. If Rambo improves then we get a goalkeeper even better than Raya. It’s unsentimental stuff but this is what we needed from Arsene - not upgrading Coquelin with Kante for example

Well that’s like, my opinion man. More than willing to eat my words after a full season but I genuinely believe given what I’ve seen from him at Brentford, come the end of the season Raya will be in conversation for one of the best keepers in the league.

"We work professionally really well together. We push each other in training and there’s days where I come in and I’m down because of the situation and he picks me up. And for whatever reason there might be a day where he’s down and even though I’m suffering and hurting for not playing I have to stand up and be able to push him.”

Additionally, Raya also said something similar in an interview with the Athletic:

“The relationship? It’s very good,” adds Raya. “At the end of the day, we are mates, which is the important thing. We have a very healthy relationship. There are no problems.

We push each other every day in training: when he’s a little bit down, I push him, and when I’m a little bit down (he does the same). We train three goalkeepers, four at the most, for hours a week, and you need that kind of relationship because otherwise, the training is not going to go well.”

It’s taken out of context though. Ramsdale was speaking in a way that seems more hypothetical than a provocative “I don’t like this get me out of here now” sense.

Agree to disagree. That hypothetical clause in the passage is about Raya being down:

And for whatever reason, there might be a day where he’s down and even though I’m suffering and hurting for not playing, I have to stand up and be able to push him.

I read that as the same as saying

even though I’m suffering and hurting for not playing, there might be a day where he’s down for whatever reason and I have to stand up and be able to push him.

So, I don’t think the headline really warps the passage significantly.

a provocative “I don’t like this get me out of here now” sense.

I don’t think the headline implies that.

In any case, it’s certainly much too harsh to say they’re “making shit up”

If you compare the headline to what is being said, it is making up shit. Yes, the exact words exist but they are divorced from the wider context of the situation.

This is pretty standard media clickbait; the aim is to get you to talk about it. Also note the reaction when it’s Ramsdale vs. Raya - the latter literally said he’d like to play in La Liga sometime, and there’s not nearly as much of an uproar.

You’re reading too literally into this IMO.

It’s pulled out of the middle of a sentence and suggests a different context to what was actually said.

So instead of “we’re professionals and support each other even though it hurts that I’m not starting” which is what he’s said. It reads as “I’m hurting” which is ambiguous and suggestive that there is a bigger problem there.

I hate click bait titles too. Especially, like in this instance, there is no need. What he actually said is incredible interesting to us.

Let’s say after a close game which we won, Arteta said “it was a tough situation but we got the win, so I am happy”, then loads of news sites posted a headline saying “ARSENAL IN TOUGH SITUATION, SAYS ARTETA”.

This headline (along with the billion other examples) is exact reason I never wanted to pursue journalism after (and while) studying it. You’re literally taught to create misleading headlines. And the funny thing is that the headline could read: “Ramsdale Discusses Mindset With Losing His Starting Place” and it would get the exact same readership.

He signed a new contract last summer. Onana cost 50m. We should make them both pay 50m minimum for a homegrown keeper. It should actually be more but we don’t have the cache/reputation needed to ask for exorbitant prices

If United come in - we should be absolutely trying to rinse them. That said - I can’t see any other team going in for him that we can expect a huge fee off.

Ideally it should be like 40m+ based on what we paid for him, his international status, age and ability. But I’d be surprised if we break even on the 30m we spent

If any of our players besides El Neny are feeling happy and content with not getting regular playing time we don’t really want them on the team anyways.

This is an expected reaction from a player that wants to play. He isn’t helping anything by speaking to reporters about it though.

I like Raya, he’s a decent keeper. But Ramsdale is one of my favourite players at arsenal. He has so much passion for the club and fans. Something that was immensely important in keeping the squad together.

Ramsdale may not be a world class goalie, not that Raya is. But he was surely top 5 in the league behind ederson, Allison and Pickford (who I don’t really rate but can’t deny without him Everton would be long gone)
