I still really can’t get my head around this and feel for Ramsdale
It’s pretty straight forward - he was our weakest starter after last season and we upgraded him with a significantly better goalkeeper. ABC 123
Ramsdale can easily improve his footwork and coming for crosses!! That’s pretty much only reason raya is in
Raya is not that great, Ramsdale should work hard and learn from him and he can be back in no1 spot.
Ramsdale is a great keeper, supportive teammate and just seems like an overall lovely guy. He’s had a tough 2023. I hope things pick up for him soon.
Hell be gone in the summer unfortunately. He’s too good to be a backup.
If one can interchange outfield players as Guadiola does, why not the keeper? Raya wasn’t flawless in the last match, Ramsdale’s time will come and its up to him to be on top form when it does.
Lots of football ahead.
Love Rambo, he was the best keeper we’ve had since mad Jens. Until Raya. Raya is better and is not far off from Allison / Ederson. If Rambo improves then we get a goalkeeper even better than Raya. It’s unsentimental stuff but this is what we needed from Arsene - not upgrading Coquelin with Kante for example
Raya is far off of Alisson, I’m sorry.
Well that’s like, my opinion man. More than willing to eat my words after a full season but I genuinely believe given what I’ve seen from him at Brentford, come the end of the season Raya will be in conversation for one of the best keepers in the league.
Raya is nowhere near Allison / Ederson.
Good heavens the delusion.
Ederson is nowhere near Allison either tbf
“Raya is better and is not far off from Allison / Ederson”
He’s not in that conversation.
lol Ramsdale and Raya are not far off each other but the Brazilians are in a totally different league to everyone else in the PL. They are truly the only world class goalies in the league.
Raya is not far off who???
As always it isnt as bad if you read the article.
It not only ‘isn’t as bad’ - it’s actually just normal and reasonable.
Even the headline is exactly what you would expect from any goalkeeper who has lost his place. Would be worried if they weren’t upset.
Nah I’m totally fine with just reading the title and basing my opinion on the player just on that alone. The former requires too much work 🥱
I’m sorry but at this point Arteta has to go
I think you are looking for the Chelsea page… Go and support them you plastic fan.
“… to the bathroom because he’s been dropping some rank farts in the change room and it’s disgusting”
See sometimes you need to read the whole article.
Headline sounds dramatic but pretty reasonable comments.
"We work professionally really well together. We push each other in training and there’s days where I come in and I’m down because of the situation and he picks me up. And for whatever reason there might be a day where he’s down and even though I’m suffering and hurting for not playing I have to stand up and be able to push him.”
It takes an incredible human being to be able to not only feel and act in this way but to be so honest about his feelings takes balls. Him and El neny really are some of the kindest footballers in existence.
obviously they take a normal quote and make it so out of context it’s ridiculous
Additionally, Raya also said something similar in an interview with the Athletic:
“The relationship? It’s very good,” adds Raya. “At the end of the day, we are mates, which is the important thing. We have a very healthy relationship. There are no problems.
We push each other every day in training: when he’s a little bit down, I push him, and when I’m a little bit down (he does the same). We train three goalkeepers, four at the most, for hours a week, and you need that kind of relationship because otherwise, the training is not going to go well.”
Guardian making up shit headlines for clicks, nothing to see here.
What do you mean? He literally said the stuff in the headline. They get along well, but he’s still suffering.
It’s taken out of context though. Ramsdale was speaking in a way that seems more hypothetical than a provocative “I don’t like this get me out of here now” sense.
Agree to disagree. That hypothetical clause in the passage is about Raya being down:
And for whatever reason, there might be a day where he’s down and even though I’m suffering and hurting for not playing, I have to stand up and be able to push him.
I read that as the same as saying
even though I’m suffering and hurting for not playing, there might be a day where he’s down for whatever reason and I have to stand up and be able to push him.
So, I don’t think the headline really warps the passage significantly.
a provocative “I don’t like this get me out of here now” sense.
I don’t think the headline implies that.
In any case, it’s certainly much too harsh to say they’re “making shit up”
If you compare the headline to what is being said, it is making up shit. Yes, the exact words exist but they are divorced from the wider context of the situation.
This is pretty standard media clickbait; the aim is to get you to talk about it. Also note the reaction when it’s Ramsdale vs. Raya - the latter literally said he’d like to play in La Liga sometime, and there’s not nearly as much of an uproar.
You’re reading too literally into this IMO.
Agree to disagree. I don’t think the headline drastically changes the sentiment of that sentence. Ramsdale is hurting, which is natural and not a big deal.
I’m not sure why bother responding then if that’s all you wanted to say. But fair enough.
Thank you
Thanks bro. I absolutely depise stupid title like this
r/tennis let’s you report posts with sensationalized titles. I’d like to see that added here.
Both can be true though. Ramsdale isnt happy with the situation and its affecting him but he isnt going to be a prick and hate on raya
This. Do people really think he’s gonna come out and slate Raya or Mikel? He’s pissed, and I would be too. But as a professional he’ll just have to keep fighting
This is the way
When the rumours around Raya started to gain momentum, he said in an interview earlier that he’s been the one to get other keepers benched and was prepared for the chance that he’d get benched.
We would never know, can only believe what he said. Still a dumb title, left out a big hole
the title is literally fine lol what did you expect them to post the entire interview in the title?
The headline took a 4 word portion of a sentence that sounds much worse and really does not convey what he was actually saying in that sentence.
Why is it a stupid title? Its literally what he is expressing
It’s pulled out of the middle of a sentence and suggests a different context to what was actually said.
So instead of “we’re professionals and support each other even though it hurts that I’m not starting” which is what he’s said. It reads as “I’m hurting” which is ambiguous and suggestive that there is a bigger problem there.
I hate click bait titles too. Especially, like in this instance, there is no need. What he actually said is incredible interesting to us.
Let’s say after a close game which we won, Arteta said “it was a tough situation but we got the win, so I am happy”, then loads of news sites posted a headline saying “ARSENAL IN TOUGH SITUATION, SAYS ARTETA”.
Yes, those are the words he used, but does that sound like his intent in the comment?
Because it made him think the worst
Because it leaves out a huge amount of context for clicks
Yeah, it’s like they think it’s okay to misrepresent on the basis that we KNOW their headlines are horse shit.
This is a less spectacular side of the post-truth world we live in. It’s all okay for clicks, right? It’s okay to lie to get attention, yes?
This title was plastered everywhere today. Such clickbait bs
This headline (along with the billion other examples) is exact reason I never wanted to pursue journalism after (and while) studying it. You’re literally taught to create misleading headlines. And the funny thing is that the headline could read: “Ramsdale Discusses Mindset With Losing His Starting Place” and it would get the exact same readership.
So how much are we getting for him next summer? I’ll go with £35m.
Considering our record about selling in recent times? Not that much
£17m
1.7 million, rising to 3.2 mil with bonuses.
Sounds about right. I could see Chelsea easily paying that. Or even United could jump in off Onana continues to underwhelm
He signed a new contract last summer. Onana cost 50m. We should make them both pay 50m minimum for a homegrown keeper. It should actually be more but we don’t have the cache/reputation needed to ask for exorbitant prices
If United come in - we should be absolutely trying to rinse them. That said - I can’t see any other team going in for him that we can expect a huge fee off.
Ideally it should be like 40m+ based on what we paid for him, his international status, age and ability. But I’d be surprised if we break even on the 30m we spent
loan, option to buy for 15
12
If any of our players besides El Neny are feeling happy and content with not getting regular playing time we don’t really want them on the team anyways.
This is an expected reaction from a player that wants to play. He isn’t helping anything by speaking to reporters about it though.
What is love?
He should talk less to the media. Statements will always be taken out of contract.
This does not spark joy
Ramsdale needs to stop with the interviews, remember last year where he said something stupid like “I thought we’d be able to relax” or some other demoralising shit when it was meant to be the title run
Intentionally inflammatory title unfortunately. He was earnest but professional in the actual piece.
I like Raya, he’s a decent keeper. But Ramsdale is one of my favourite players at arsenal. He has so much passion for the club and fans. Something that was immensely important in keeping the squad together.
Ramsdale may not be a world class goalie, not that Raya is. But he was surely top 5 in the league behind ederson, Allison and Pickford (who I don’t really rate but can’t deny without him Everton would be long gone)
This is the brutality of football. A good lad and a fine GK, but ultimately Raya is the better choice.
