It is not illegal for consumers to boycott companies. The Supreme Court in 1982 ruled the First Amendment protects Americans’ rights to protest private businesses.
Funny how they preach “the market will regulate itself” until it regulates itself in the “wrong direction”. And all of a sudden something needs to be done by “the government”.
Make Tesla owners ashamed
Soooo … Trump thinks he can force people to buy Teslas? Just like Elon is trying (and failing) to sue companies for not advertising on Twitter.
Something something free market?
So, a boycott is illegal, protest of Tesla outlets is terrorism. Do We the People get to have any say?
Trump: No, and now it’s illegal for you not to like me.
Uh… You still get to choose what you wear… As long as it is on this approved list of companies
I’m assuming Kanye’s Yeezy trash will be approved by the Ministry of Freedom?
And a MAGA cap, of course.
Someone’s being a pissbaby because nobody wants to buy stuff from fascists. Lul.
This makes me think he just has no idea what a boycott is, because for it to be illegal, purchasing a Tesla would some how have to be legally mandate.
Don’t give them ideas.
This is probably just a ploy to boost Tesla sales among his followers. And honestly, I’ll play the part of “owned lib” if it transitions MAGAs to EVs. Better than rolling coal.
Nazis helping fund nazis…
This seems hypocritical. Didn’t all those “Snowflakes” boycott Budweiser last year?
Yeah, but: Budweiser ghey.
Checkmate, liberals!
yes
Yes, but no (not trying to be contrarian) because I felt it was definitely before last year
The Budweiser boycott started 2 years ago April 2023
But YES those are the same snowflakes
Okay, guess I’m technically not boycotting Tesla. I just straight up can’t afford a car, not in this economy. Nor do I care, because there’s a bus stop just down the street. Not that I’m intimidated by Trump because I’m not American and he can’t prosecute this shit even domestically.
not using twitter counts.
“Land of the free.”
Common misconception.
Land of the fee.
🎶 … of the free hypocrisy 🎶
This shit is such bottom of the barrel trump antics
He has always cried fowl when anyone is critical
Let alone try to exercise their limited power
If it was one of his businesses I’d agree. But this is bottom of the barrel AND makes him look like a weak little lapdog for Musk.
This is his playbook with politics, business, PR in general
Wait what
How the fuck are you gonna force me to buy a Tesla
Haven’t you seen all those cops outside the Tesla shops recently?
I think that even if I wanted to buy anything from Tesla, I would turn around if I saw a bunch of cops outside of it.
Yeah, but they’re really going to have a tough time getting me to put in any financial information if they do arrest my ass and bring me to the Tesla dealership
Especially since no one can afford them.
What part about 0% APR don’t you understand? /s
Establish a federal Bitcoin reserve with tax money.
Have Elon only accept Bitcoin for payments from the government.
Give Tesla another federal contract for billions.
Buy more Bitcoin to replenish it.
I don’t understand how that forces me to buy a Tesla
Do you pay taxes? Do the price of your goods rise because corporations pay taxes?
When the government does something, it was a collective pool of resources that paid for it. When the government buys anything your productivity contributed to the purchase. Everyone’s did.
Are taxes optional (for the working class)?
This is pretty basic stuff fellas.
Isn’t step one or two to implement arbitrary tariffs to fund the reserve?
Tariff money is tax money, it’s the same step.
Even if boycotting were illegal how in the fuck would that be enforceable?
Simple, just put out an EO requiring every citizen to purchase a Tesla.
He’d also need to put out an EO making it illegal to wipe your ass with an EO.
Felon rapist says what?
Trump said “radical left lunatics” are “illegally and collusively” boycotting Tesla, which the president described as one of the best automakers in the world. This action, Trump said, was meant as an attack on Musk and what he stands for.
It is not illegal for consumers to boycott companies. The Supreme Court in 1982 ruled the First Amendment protects Americans’ rights to protest private businesses.
This is pretty much the reason high ranking government officials are supposed to be divested…
Also:
Tesla shares popped more than 4% in Tuesday morning trading. In addition to Trump’s promotion of Tesla, the stock may also be helped by a note to clients from Morgan Stanley advising them to pick up shares after the steep decline.
Sounds like Morgan Stanley doesn’t want to be left holding the bag…
https://www.cnbc.com/2025/01/13/morgan-stanley-ups-tesla-target-gives-bull-case-of-800.html
Less than two months ago they predicted it would go up to 800 so they told people to buy it…
Instead it dropped to 200, and they’re still telling people to buy it.
When an investment company just always tells people to buy a stock regardless of what happens, it usually means they’re heavily invested, so the higher the price the more they make.
So there likely is illegal manipulation happening, it’s just trying to do the opposite of what’s happening
Exemplary insight in your post, bravo.
Honestly, even if the SC made no commentary with regards to the right to protest businesses… what the fuck would the play even be here? A fine or a tax penalty or something like that if you don’t buy a Tesla…? Seriously, I’m genuinely curious what the theoretical remedial action would be.
