1·10 hours agoSorry, but anything big gets penetrated by an informer. You can’t do big group chats and actually plan attacks like that and not end up in prison.

43·14 hours agoWhat they can potentially do is have the Senate shut down other parts of the government in protest.
ICE is already funded for years to come; it will take an affirmative vote to remove that money, and you can’t do that when in the minority.

14·17 hours agoIt doesn’t matter how loudly they yell if the press doesn’t cover them. They’re yelling. You just aren’t where you can see it.

13·17 hours agoI see a lot of Democrats openly talking about how mad they are. There’s a pretty extensive discussion about not voting for funding for ICE in Congress, and an active effort to get enough votes to impeach Kristi Noem.
There are also a bunch of Democrats calling for nonviolent resistance because they recognize that making the Insurrection Act invocation look ridiculous when it comes will be strategically useful.
A few are also just out of it — they’re depending on the New York Times to tell them what’s going on, and that doesn’t work.

18·18 hours agoYeah, they’re uniquely empowered to sue on behalf of the constituents they represent, so they can do a lot more than most other elected officials.

politics @lemmy.world•The Government’s Posts Just Took a Sharp Far-Right Turn | Government social-media managers have turned official feeds into streams of xenophobia.
1·19 hours agoThe problem is that the US is still place where people who advocate violence for leftist reasons can be tossed in prison. So, no, it’s not a good idea to allow people to post explicit, realistic, actionable calls for violence in public places.
Talk about it in your 4-person Signal chat with people you trust.

politics @lemmy.world•ICE Has Stopped Paying Contractors for Detainee Medical Treatment | Despite ample funding, the agency halted payments in October. They may not resume for several months.
12·2 days agoCongressmembers have managed to inspect some. They don’t provide medical care:
“The most frequent feedback we got was the inadequacy of the medical care they are receiving,” said Schiff. He described meeting a diabetic detainee who he said has not received treatment for her condition in two months. “That’s frightening,” he said.
A fair number of people do seem to be deported to other countries rather than die in the camps.. Officially, the number who died in ICE custody is 32 during 2025, but it’s entirely possible that this number is an undercount. I will also note that ICE tends to deport people who are experiencing medical emergencies so that they die outside the US
