you are comparing WLTP range here and not real world range.

also these two vehicles are very different in size.

looking at real world range the model Y LR in the summer at 120kmh only made it 340km which means going from 80% to 5% charge on a road trip is only 221km so you are charging less than every 2 hours.

the EV6 GT in similar conditions had 259km of range at 120kmh giving it 187km range when using 75% of battery charge.

Tesla has heavily optimized for these test cycles so they get really good numbers on paper but in reality theres a HUGE difference between test cycle range and real world range.

this has absolutely nothing to do with being behind on tech or anything.

in Europe the Mazda 2 is a rebadged Yaris and the Mazda is only available with one single engine while the Yaris can also be had with a stronger hybrid system.

that would be incredibly expensive and heavy.

personally no matter who talks about it or who made it, everyone needs to stop talking about ANY mileage battery as there is no such thing as a “500mile battery”

there may be a battery with a capacity high enough to drive a specific vehicle under specific conditions for up to 500 miles but thats a combination of many factors and not a property of the battery.

the hybrid system only recharges the battery when its needed.

go sit in the rear of a model 3 or model S as an adult and you can easily lick your knees in your normal sitting position.

the alternative is what Porsche and Lucid did where they dont put any batteries into the rear passenger foot well but that makes production more complex and means you need to put these batteries somewhere else.

less refined just means that it comes out as a lower fraction during distillation as it has longer carbon chains and a higher boiling point, it has no meaning regarding cost of the fuel.

and the article seems to have no idea what they are talking about as they make it seem like a refinery can choose what they produce while in reality they only separate whats already in the crude oil.

so if a refiner “chooses” to not produce diesel fuel all that means is they dont separate it out but simply sell it as lower grade fuel/heating oil.

for the NA market its simply the hen and egg problem, people dont like buying diesels a lot because of the availability in prices and that means refineries will just sell it as fuel/heating oil instead.

thats not the same problem as having a shrinking market as the market will shrink slowly and refineries can simply adjust what they sell the individual fractions as whenever they feel like it.

they will need to keep the refineries running anyways for kerosene and gasoline for many more decades so what name they give their diesel doesnt really matter much.

short distance is meaningless.

what matters is how much energy is being used and the energy used by farming equipment is huge.

especially large equipment like combines is standing around for months at a time only to be operated 24/7 for a few weeks during harvesting season.

this vehicle category will take many more decades to be realistically switched to EVs.

small tractors could work but even these are operating at high load for days on end and you would need multiple of them so you can switch them out during operation.

be aware that in order to make money with such a charger you will need to set the price quite a bit higher than what you are paying.

you will also be paying some 3rd party a share of everything because someone needs to handle the billing and payments.

overall everyone should be aware that such a charger will most likely never recoup its cost, especially not if its a level 2 charger.

that and the fact that i have no place to charge an EV anyways is why i bought a hybrid.

a hybrid has the biggest advantage in city driving but a RAV4 will overall be more efficient regardless of what you do simply because Toyotas engines are the most thermal efficient engines on the market.

yea this is very stupid and impractical because you are 100% not realizing what it means to have a car with zero electronics.

you would basically have to go back to the very first cars ever made where you started the engine with a hand crank and your head lights were candles in a glass housing.
