Banksy says that any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours to rearrange and reuse. It seems a reasonable extension that any surveillance device that gives you no choice whether it sees you or not is yours to rearrange and reuse.

I mean enough scrapmetal still means food/drugs. And I’m certain many cities have a population that would find value in that. Just need to drop off some well placed flyers, and cities would be deflocked overnight.

Are most scrap yards even accessible without a car? My country isn’t nearly as car-centric as the US and it would still be a huge issue to try and go to a scrap yard on foot.

Here where I live, yes, they’re accessible, and I have people who go through my trash and recycling for cans every trash day (to the point we keep those on top so they don’t have to dig.) Usually walking with their commandeered carts.

Is scrap somehow much more valuable in your parts, or are these people even more desperate than the people around here who collect cans and bottles that have a deposit? I feel like more people here would scrap non-deposit cans if it was worth the effort …

We never of that kind of requirement around here. I know people who drove their old rusted metal tables to the scrapyard, obviously they didn’t have any kind of proof that those are actually theirs and definitely no scrapping license. But maybe the local scrapyards might still refuse people if there’s a more concrete reason for suspicion, IDK.

I see… Another “quick win” makes a little sense then too, sorry.

This won’t last enough, I believe, and may result in permanent distrust even. The person who believed you will eventually realize you lied to them, and why should they trust you in the future?

Meaning, why start from a lie in the first place? A foundation built on a lie eventually collapses, and the people who trusted that lie are often the ones who get hurt the most.

Since you clearly have a message people value, that is, current terrible privacy issues, why not give them a better start, an actual path with a reason to trust you, the purpose and idea, for the long run by carrying the truth instead?

So “it’s just a meme bro!” Is the new “it’s just a joke bro!”?

Could be plated copper, unless you have better information - I’ve seen similar components in breaker panels and the like that are plated copper (plated because raw copper likes to corrode and get ugly looking).

I have just worked with aluminum pieces in a machine shop enough to spot em. I would be shocked if they were plated copper and not just aluminum.

Not that it applies here, but hypothetically… one might choose silver for better conductivity and lower heat in high current applications.

Looks like silver- or tin-plated copper to me. So not entirely silver.

Don’t let that fact stop anyone who might enjoy this as a past time though…
