Indeed, I think they might be good for sprinting (and jumps!), not the usual long distance running

Technology@lemmy.world•A generation taught not to think: AI in the classroomEnglish
121·23 hours agoThis. (Offline too.)
Which generation did we really taught critical thinking to? In general, those “thinkers” or people with nice research skills (e.g. reading comprehension and other traits) were always a minority within each generation. And I agree there will be less now with AI. But we have no polls or measurement, so the title goes a little clickbaity, in resonance to the generalized discomfort towards a new technology that schools haven’t accomodated yet (e.g. all kind of solutions are seen in the wild)
I reckon it was the same with arithmetislcs and calculators in the past. We were able to deal with that! (so that whatever proportion of people that graduates knowing arithmetics with each generation didn’t shrink “too much”.)
If we are considering possible scenarios, let’s be optimistic too.
AI (discounting other problems like their ecological footprint) may not be that bad on our educational systems once we adjust…

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you could add one book to the required reading curriculum for people under 18, what would it be?
2·4 days ago“Martin Fierro” by Jose Hernandez. Me and all my classmates thought it would be the most boring book. We were surprised. And it was full of teachings for soon-to-be adults.
A sailor once told me the anchor tattoo represented their will to end up in the bottom of the sea if he ever drowned or their ship sinked. This was because, as he put it, the other option would be having their family members see his body in terrible shape.
This person tended to tell exagerated stories, but still… I was young and believed it ever since. Can any other people confirm they heard the same? I would like to know :)
Obviously “Cats”
Edit; if there was a “Crabs” musical then that one.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When/how frequently do you replace your phone with a new one?
2·4 days agoOn average every 5 years. The battery life is always the issue. I will get a fairphone next time…

People Twitter@sh.itjust.works•We all watched ICE walk up to her window, pulled out his gun and shot her point blank in the face
1·4 days agoPrecisely! One has to look also for the wheels. She was turning away off him. Also, if he really felt threatened he would have first move to the side, not concerning himself with shooting. Everyone knows a bullet won’t stop a car. And, secondly, to stop the car you would aim to the wheels probably but no officer did it… They were all concerned with terroricing the population and that’s the reason behind this MURDER. Fuck nazis and pedophiles’ apologists.
F*ck those nazi apologists. Instead of framework rather get a linux laptop e.g. starlabs. Oh, repairability… Yeah, it hurts me too.
That would be great answer. Make them retract their paper!! Science & revenge, my two favorite things to have in this cruel world :')

Europe@feddit.org•USA withdraws from 29 Europe-based international organizations/ entitiesEnglish
4·4 days agoAh, never looked into the numbers of this second presidency. I guess that bullet he “dodged” did give him an unexpected appeal… Sad.
Oh wow, may I also do this anymore? Yay!
Depends on how you want take it… I don’t believe the commenters refer really to people, they might be more like targeting Institutions (e.g. British Museum)… It all depends on the sensibility of the reader (like many arguments on the Internet)

2·4 days agoI don’t like those projects either. Scuttlebut and cjdns looked more “profesional” to my ignorant eyes. I bring these up because I’d like to hear your comments. I will check 10fingers now…

Technology@lemmy.world•F*** You! Co-Creator of Go Language is Rightly Furious Over This Appreciation EmailEnglish
61·5 days agoI love Python because it’s actually the second best language to do anything. For concurrency, Go is better. Also, you are terribly naive to judge a language only by its syntax.
Collabora enters the room…
In case anyone wants to try this or any other “natural” drug. The most important fact is to check how far apart is the dose (a.k.a. LD50) that has the desires effect from the dose that’s going to kill you. Most of the recreative drugs have a nice gap in between.
Back from where I come from some teens would prepare an hallcinogenic tea with flowers from Datura plants. Some deaths were reported from time to time…
Of course, this is not considering other risks (health issues aside from death itself, or psychological dependance.)
So… Keep it simple. It’s better to trust your dealer’s products. Omg, wtf is my advise right now…?? Well, I guess “better” is the keyword here.

Anti Meme@sopuli.xyz•But the question is, is a chicken egg an egg containing a chicken or an egg which was laid by a chicken?
1·13 days agoOh but from a biological perspective they are a whole different case. The general rule would be that fish doesn’t lay this type of eggs (with specific layers and a hard shell). Amphibians neither. And then, evolutionary speaking, came the amniote egg. With feats that work as an adaptation to earth’s dry environments, without water. It’s really a ‘deal breaker’ and as such it’s treated by biology books because we split all animals between those that have such eggs and those who don’t…

AFAIK, the problem is that we don’t even know with certsinty the shape of the universe. Let alone find out anything outside our own cosmos…
