  • We’re playing ugly football right now but it’s incredibly effective. Other teams are underestimating us because we’re not blowing teams away like last year. But I think we’re even harder to beat this year.

We shut teams down extremely well evidenced by the fact that we have the best defensive record in the league. Yesterday we sucked once we got to the box but besides some individual errors from Ramsdale, we didn’t give them a look in.

And we keep doing that to teams. When we slip it’s due to individual errors (Spurs, Fulham, Chelsea).

If we can start to find fluidity in the final third we’ll be lethal.

  • I’m optimistic this season. We’re only 3 points off last season after 10 matches. We’re unbeaten and probably have had a harder run this year, including beating City.

We’ve not yet hit our stride and we’re still doing extremely well. It was always going to be hard replacing both our central midfielders (I think it was a mistake not to keep Xhaka for one more year to bleed in the replacement). If teams aren’t scared of us yet, they should be.

  • They do have some fantastic players this year. Son has rediscovered his form, Maddison is the best player in the league so far (perhaps Salah), Bissouma has settled very well and Udogie looks class too. They have a decent team.

The problem I think they’ll face is that they have a significant drop off between their best players and the rest of the 11 and then another drop off with their reserves. I doubt they can sustain a title challenge because of that but you’d expect them to finish top four.

  • Partey is better receiving the ball under pressure than Rice. Partey is the perfect outlet for the defence when they’re pressing us high. Rice is the better tackler but he’s also much better at progressing the ball forward than Partey and his passing is excellent.

At West Ham they needed a ball winner which is why he was the 6. At Arsenal we need a ball mover who can track back and tackle when needed. Since we have possession far more than West Ham, the Partey outlet is more important.
