  • Yeah. There was a time on the pitch yesterday where Jesus was on the edge of the box from the LW, could have easily laid the ball to Gabi/Rice who had a clear shot on Goal but instead chose to run straight into a wall of 3 defenders.

I love Jesus and he causes a lot of mayhem for opposition defenders but he needs to have better decision making. Tbf every attacker had poor decision making yesterday including Ødegaard and Saka.

I also think that for some reason our attackers are trying too hard. Ødegaard and Jesus were consistently getting frustrated and kept messing things up. Ødegaard was trying to force things KDB style but nothing was working for him.

I’d still continue with Jesus for a couple of more games. He’s on another level to other players when he’s on form. I’m also nowhere Havertz’s biggest fan but if Jesus doesn’t improve we might need to think of other options starting in his place and Havertz has been good aerially the past couple of games. For now, I’d continue with Jesus tho because his all round game on form is far superior to both Eddie and Kai.

  • Do people actually think Ødegaard will flourish in the LCM position or is it just because there’s a new fad of wanting someone more dynamic with Saka?

Ødegaard and Saka have been an amazing partnership, if they were THAT incompatible, the partnership wouldn’t have flourished so much.

Couldn’t this just simply be Ødegaard going through a bad patch? Our star players are allowed bad matches too, not just the fringe players.

Also fwiw, i think Ødegaard is one of our least versatile players according to the position they can play in. I don’t think Ødegaard at LCM would work at all, Ødegaard loves hugging the right side and making space to deliver crosses/passes with his left leg.

  • Hasn’t Jesus recently come back from injury? I get that things aren’t going great for him but you need to give players time to settle.

You say that Havertz has been our best CF this season when he’s played 2 games as a sub in that position for 15-20 mins each. That’s a very small sample size. We find much bigger sample size of him playing as a LCM where he hasn’t been great.

Havertz offers us more aerially when we are completely onto the opponent and we need a goal. That’s not the only thing we need when he starts a game. Jesus’s overall game when completely fit is onto another sphere compared to Havertz. When we need to go long and need a physical presence, I get it, get Havertz on. But not at the expense of Gabriel Jesus at all.

I also don’t believe you bench your star players when they are going through a bad patch, especially for someone as unproven as Havertz.

People talk about giving your players confidence, it isn’t only applicable for fringe players, you need to.give confidence to your star players too. You shouldn’t just bench Jesus and Ødegaard because they’re going through a bad patch.

  • Havertz has had 2, 15 min cameos at CF and has stank up the place at the LCM position. Benching someone as influential as Jesus for someone who’s been as lackluster as Havertz is a moronic take.

Why are the likes of Jesus, Ødegaard not allowed bad games but Havertz has 2 decent appearances out of the multiple games he’s played and we have people wanking off to him?

Havertz started 5 games at LCM where his only contribution was defensive duels. Now he shows up with 2 good substitute appearances and he deserves to start over Jesus?

Jesus overall game at CF is far far superior to Havertz’s. Yes Havertz is better aerially but that’s the only department he can beat Jesus in. Also if we constantly need to go long to progress the ball there’s something wrong with us tactically.

  • It’s all narratives really, not the performance. If a player is a recent Arteta signing and he is criticised by the media, r/gunners will be firmly behind the player no matter the performance. If you dare think that the player shouldn’t be starting you’d be served with the usual “Do you know more than the manager?” At this point it is also a dick measuring contest to show everyone that "Oh look I am a true Arsenal fan, I only support the players and don’t criticise them "

Then you shit like aerial duels coming up because there are no other metrics you can praise the player for.

It’s not just for Havertz tho, any player who is being criticised by the media (provided he’s a recent Arteta signing) would get extra protection from the fans. Is that a good thing or a bad thing, that’s for you to decide. You could argue that fans are supposed to protect their players from outside noises. On the other hand you could also argue that some players get fans backing them without any reason when players who have performed well deserve it so much more.

  • I thought this is the last thing I would touch on post last night’s match but saw a very interesting comment on the post match the thread yesterday along the lines of “Can’t wait for the comments wanting Trossard to start now that he’s scored a goal as a sub”

I always feel like Trossard gets judged to a much harsher standard by this sub, mostly because they were irritated that a section of fans wanted him to start over Kai Havertz, who is Mikel’d darling.

The narrative on Trossard is only a super sub is false according to me. He’s started 2 games this season. One, he shat the bed and in the other one he was playing with an injury. 2 bad halves doesn’t mean that you’re not a good starter. I get that he doesn’t stretch the defence the way Gabi Martinelli does or he doesn’t offer the same defensive output as Kai but on the ball, Trossard is far, far superior to Havertz. He’s also the best ball striker in the team.

People were convinced that Havertz was a shit striker and we were going to transform into a legendary LCM when he was signed. Multiple threads on how he would be great for that position. Havertz came in, couldn’t make any sort of impact at the LCM position except some duels defensively and people are now convinced he should be our starting CF over Jesus based on 2 substitute appearances where he’s provided an aerial threat, that’s it.

Going by the same logic Havertz should be a super sub as well? Except better physical attributes what does Havertz actually offer over Trossard? Trossard is a better passer, dribbler and far superior finisher.

People have so much patience for the likes of Kai Havertz and Eddie Nketiah (who I really like) but if Trossard has a bad game it’s all look this is why he doesn’t start. Havertz and Eddie are allowed bad patches, time to adjust to the team because Arteta seems to favour them but Trossard doesn’t get nearly the same patience from the fans. True gooners keep on talking about “back your team”, doesn’t seem to be applicable for all players tho.
