The Taco never had a NA V8, only I4 or V6. The only model (so far) that typically has a V8 but now offers a turbo I4 as well is the Silverado/Sierra 1500, and even that one is only replacing the NA V6, not the V8s.
Unless I’m mistaken, it was unibody but had a bolt-on subframe in front. But it was definitely more truck-y than the average minivan.
It depends on the working RPM range. A semi truck has 1000+ ft-lbs. of torque, but still has 10-18 gears to keep it in a narrow RPM band.

Repealing the chicken tax wouldn’t necessarily bring in minitrucks immediately: they’d also have to meet emissions and safety regs. And many former “mini” trucks aren’t mini anymore either.
The 2018 refresh of the '15 aluminum F-150 was a major glow-up IMO.
Wow, I didn’t think that would work as well as it does. Some awkwardness with the hood line, and the filler pieces at the back are a little busy, but overall not bad.
American cars could generally hold together a little longer, not necessarily because rustproofing was better, more that it was just thicker steel that took longer to get through. And even that started going away in the '80s.
