Our awd ID4 will go about 270 miles on a full charge in the summer assuming 55mph and a flat road.

Regen is at best about 30% (seems I am low) efficient.
18-21 USD cents per kWh in Vermont USA.
I suspect that long waits for charging has become more of an issue this year. A combination of federal and state incentives have helped boost EV sales considerably. The charging infrastructure (non Tesla) was mediocre at best before the surge and now it likely gets better servicing and less chance of down units but still not enough stations to meet demand. I suspect that both the number of stations and their locations/layouts will improve. We are just in a painful junction right now
Fox News is one of the largest proponents for propping up the big oil companies.
Chargers 101: in USA they are referred to as Level 1, 2 , or 3. Level 1 is any 110v plug and you can expect 1 to 2 kWh rate or about 3-5 miles of charge per hour. A full charge could take 40 hours.
Level 2 is what most businesses and hotels have and what most people setup at home. It’s a 240V plug and runs in the 35-45Amp range and typically will do a full charge in 7-8 hours.
Level 3 is 480V? These are fast chargers typically 50,100,150,350 KWh capable and will fully charge in 30 min to an hour.
Wow cheap fuel. Around here it just hit a low of about $3.25 but it’s been hovering in the $3.55 to $3.75 for base grade for quite a while.
How does it compare to a brand new Bolt with a $7500 tax credit and probably more state credits?
Ask around as to which Chevy dealer near you has a good reputation and go talk to them. See if there is anything they can do
I follow the order of arrival as best I can. I’ve even let would be sneakers know there are several people waiting. I think most of the problems stem from just how badly barging stations are laid out. Could really take a page from the gas station book. Or design them so there is a charge lane and waiting lane etc
Which are actually minimal and usually incentivized by the state.
High speed will impact your range the most 65-70 isn’t too bad but beyond that your power usage goes up considerably.
Quiet and smooth. A fraction of the maintenance. No more time stopping at gas stations. 95% of the time charge at home. 1/4 the fuel cost.
I still have motorcycles and gas engine play cars but for daily driving and main car I love the electric. Any car that has an automatic now should just ditch the transmission and go to an electric motor.
Better to post when you were there and if there was a line. Lev 3 near me is usually empty at 8 am but has a line by 10 am
Simply no. 2 motors is the most efficient way to power 2 sets of wheels with the least loss. Also motors can be switched on and off as needed.
Or it’s the $15k in tax credits we got that turned our $49k car into a $34k one. Things like this tend to take a bite into resell prices
Point out the 10’s of billions of lithium batteries used in cell phones, laptops, tablets, cordless power tools etc and see if they all stop using them.
I’ve not had any bad experiences in public. Online seems to be the breeding ground for Luddite personalities. Best to just ignore those threads or social platforms where that negative mindset flourishes
Heres some math for you:
My previous car was a 2020 VW Tiguan S. 2.0 Turbo with 8 speed DSG auto transmission. In the summer I routinely got 28 mpg. Fuel prices around here have been varying between $3.30/gallon to $3.80/gallon for the lowest octane option. Cost to drive this car for 100,000 miles solely in gas purchase:
100,000 miles / 28 mpg = 3,571.42 gallons. Cost range = $11,787 to $13,571. Figure an oil change every 5k to 7.5k miles. If I do the labor it costs me about $60 for parts. using 7.5k miles per oil change thats 13.3 oil changes for a cost of $800. If we ignore any other transmission servicing, engine aux maintenance (alternator, serpentine belt, tensioners, coolant hoses, water pumps, ps pumps etc). I’d be looking at $12k to $15k to drive the Tiguan 100,000 miles.
I’d tell you but my wife has my brain today
