As a governing body, you can do a lot better than fining clubs every season. Hell, we went to the moon. You’re telling me they can’t mitigate this to much greater extents than currently? Please

It’s a money making scheme for them at this point. Nobody is offended by that flag and even if they were, that’s part of football.

The fines we’re going to get tonight for Palestine flags will make that look cheap.

Saying this is a “fuck Celtic” banner is leaving out a lot of context. It’s politics, that’s probably why they got fined.

The banner shows a “no terrorists” sign. Celtic fans previously voiced their support for Palestine. You can figure out the rest.

Did Ukrainian spend the last 100 years murdering Russian civilians? Did Ukrainian groups attack Russian civilians in cafes and buses? Did Ukrainian groups attack schools and murder Russian children? Did Ukrainian groups snipe Russian babies?

Did a Ukrainian militia rampage through a Russian town raping Russian women on top of the bodies of their murdered friends, tie children and parents together and the burn them alive while live-streaming it?

        No?

Then the two situations aren’t remotely the same.

            Nope.

You don’t get to justify the murder and rape of 1,000 Israelis who were also not their government and then try to do the opposite with Gaza.

Not to mention the fact that Hamas enjoys way more support from Palestinians than the current government of Israel gets from its citizens.

Palestinians by and large support terrorism against Jewish civilians.

Why do you think there were celebrations in the West Bank when they found out about the rape and murder and immolation of Israeli women and children?

Yes, but those 1000 Israelis that were murdered were settlers living on illegally claimed land. They were not ‘innocent’ in the fact that they knew living there meant displacing the Palestinian, they are given subsidies by the Israeli government to be there. The most ironic issue was having a ‘Peace’ festival on land that was illegally settled under International Law.

No one wants to murder and kill, death is abhorrent to any human, but all legal measures in order to gain basic human rights were denied unless they take shitty deals presented to them by Israel and the wider international community. Of course they will turn to violence. It’s so not surprising this is happening at all if you had a shred of empathy.

These things have also been carried out against Palestinians too. You’re either doing this in deliberate bad faith or you’re being unbelievably blinkered. Like literally all of this has happened in Palestine in the last 36 months. You don’t have to go back a century.

That’s why no politics should be displayed on the field. It was the same with the BLM, you could have that on shirts but not against China treatment of the Uyghur, for example

Politics can still be discussed by footballers and in the media around it, but during the game, football should be the only show, otherwise you’re just using it to push your beliefs

Well in the case of some clubs, such as Celtic, politics are intrinsically bound the the formation and history of club. I don’t think it’s very sensible to try to separate them entirely.

And do they still represent the Celtic fanbase today? I know it comes from the catholic and protestant divide, which can also be linked to views on the whole UK, with the people supporting Rangers or Celtic based on that, but today people follow what their parents support

That’s why I don’t like when they start supporting different groups that don’t represent their entire fanbase (even worse when what you’re allowed to support is decided purely on whether it’s a brand risk or good PR) or even the players. We’ve had a player in Ligue 1 who plays for a Qatar-owned team being sidelined because he didn’t want to wear an LGBT-themed shirt

I agree there are moments that you can’t separate, like last year’s World Cup, but like I said in my original comment, you can still discuss and take positions outside of the field, but from the moment you decide to play, football should be the only thing

Football is politics on a pitch, not some generic bland american franchise garbage.

Celtics vs rangers is protestant vs catholic Barca vs madrid is Catalonia vs Spain Inter vs ac Milan is cooperation vs nationalism

To cut out the the very founding reasons of clubs is to deny their reason for existence

It’s a bad comparison because Ukraine is controlled by a decent government, with its population’s support, fighting to protect an invasion across clearly defined borders. The moral high ground in the Israel Palestine conflict is held by the civilians on both sides, neither government can claim a clear moral high ground. Palestine is controlled half by a fundamentalist religious organization that calls for Israel to be destroyed, and even the moderate party is run by a guy whose doctoral thesis is Holocaust denial.

The Ukrainian government does not call for the whole of Russia to be put under Ukrainian control, it does not call for people to kill Russian civilians in other countries, like Hamas does. This is the former Interior minister of Hamas, and current member of the legislative council:

“Seven million Palestinians outside, enough warming up, you have Jews with you in every place. You should attack every Jew possible in all the world and kill them.”

Ukraine is a simple situation. Palestine is complex, and there is no flag you can fly or slogan you can chant which represents what is needed to have a fair outcome.

Okay then explain the human rights abuses conducted by Israel and the IDF in the West Bank. Hamas does not operate there and cannot get anyone inside.

Do you condemn the settler attacks, the abuse and humiliation that the Palestinians have to suffer each day? Where was your outrage when the neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah was subjected to unlawful evictions and attacks? In Jenin? In Jerusalem where Christians are spat at?

What hamas did was unequivocally wrong but to say it was unprovoked is a total lie when literally this year the finance minister of Israel called for the massacre of a Palestinian village to make room for more illegal settlements.

                Now let’s do the Palestinians:

”Whoever is killed by a Jew receives the reward of two martyrs, because the very thing that the Jews did to the prophets was done to him.

”The Jews are the most despicable and contemptible nation to crawl upon the face of the Earth, because they have displayed hostility to Allah.

”Allah will kill the Jews in the hell of the world to come, just like they killed the believers in the hell of this world.

”The Jews kill anyone who believes in Allah. They do not want to see any peace whatsoever on Earth."

Sermon delivered by 'Atallah Abu Al-Subh, former Hamas minister of culture, which aired on Al-Agsa TV, April 8, 2011

”the Jewish faith does not wish for peace nor stability, since it is a faith that is based on murder: 'I kill, therefore I am… Israel is based only on blood and murder in order to exist, and it will disappear, with Allah’s will, through blood and Shahids [martyrs]."

                Dr. Yusuf Al-Sharafi, Hamas representative, April 12, 2007;

The economic crisis is the result of “bad administrative and financial management and a bad banking system put into place and controlled by the Jewish lobby.”

The Jewish lobby controls the U.S. elections and defines the foreign policy of any new administration in a manner that allows it to retain control of the American government and economv."

                Hamas Spokesman Fawzi Barhum, October 7, 2008;

”By God, we will not leave one Jew in Palestine. We will fight them with all the strength we have. This is our land, not the Jews…

Abdel Aziz Rantisi, Hamas leader, June 10, 2003, interview with Al-Jazeera,

”Come to jihad, come to jihad, come to martyrdom… “Those thirsty for Jihad all over the world. For the sake of Allah. For liberating the land of Palestine and Jerusalem…”

”We declared and continue to declare now, that a Jew is a Jew… [do not trust them when they say they want peace because they act only] to serve their religion and their people."

Hamas communiqué, March 9, 1989, translated and distributed in the U.S. by the Islamic Association for Palestine

”The Jews: killed the prophets…slaughtered the innocent……imprisoned our pious… NO PEACE WITH THE MURDERERS."
