Summary

France’s foreign minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, warned Donald Trump against threatening EU sovereign borders after Trump suggested potential military action to control Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory.

Barrot dismissed such actions as unacceptable and noted the return of “the law of the strongest.”

Trump previously called Greenland essential to U.S. economic security, though Denmark and Greenland’s leaders firmly rejected any sale.

Trump Jr.’s brief visit to Nuuk further escalated tensions.

I really wish officials would stop giving this much public attention to the twitter ramblings of these two. They’re clearly working putin’s agenda of seeding disagreements between NATO countries. If he wants to put his money where his mouth is, he can go get his mad offer refused through proper diplomatic channels. But this pandering to every whacky tweet is like wrestling with pigs and really has no upside.

I’m sure it’s so easy to ignore when it’s not the president of the US directly threatening the existence of your country

Threats by the most expensive army in the world cannot really be ignored. To be able to ignore Trump completely is a privilege.

Powerful threats become boots on the ground real quick.

It’s not really ignorable, though. If it was just Trump the private citizen rambling this nonsense, sure. But it’s the President (elect) of the United States.

Elections have consequences and this is one that the US can’t wave off. They put their mad king on the world stage, they own the boos he gets.

The hilarious part is that the only adversary we have that would make Greenland relevant to national defense is Russia.

The way the news media broadcasts this shit is embarrassing. I wouldn’t mind if they made it a headline, but it should be tempered with good journalism. Maybe ask why Greenland would be important to our defense? Or maybe who came up with the idea and how they are qualified to make such statements.

No upside to Americans maybe. Tweets like this are intended for the electorates of their respective countries, where hating on Trump is still a very easy way to win favourability.
