It’s gonna be like 500 of them. And they’ll all sell. And then they’ll be like, “well, we could only sell 500 cars, the US market must not want us.”
When?! Feel like I’ve been waiting for information for ages. I’m trying to decide on what small ev to buy and the only thing holding me back from getting the mini is the possibility of this little fiat.
Just give a me a sign stellantis!
Fix It Again Tony!
I’m always skeptical of Fiat. Decades of cars with poor quality and reliability
Fix It Again Tony has always been it’s acronym.
The prior 500e was solid, in my experience.
The whole EV system was Bosch, but still
After the official Stellantis comments just earlier about bearish EV future, this is a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one! I will be putting in a deposit, ideally for a “c” version (cabrio).
I’ve told myself I won’t trade the bolt in until someone releases a good 2-seater lifestyle EV (read: not an angry sports car). But a New 500 cabrio might just be cute enough that I break my promise.
inb4 they stretch it by 16 inches for the American market.
The new 500e is currently my 2nd choice of upcoming EVs on my short list of want-to-buy vehicles. Waiting to see if it or Aptera becomes obtainable first.
I test drove the old 500e when they first came out, but the short range, lack of charging infrastructure, and inability to charge at home did not make it a good upgrade over my gas-powered 500 at the time.
Nowadays, with a shorter commute and available charging at the office, the new 500e would be an easy change for me to make.
Ditto. First time I’ve learned of this new 500e, was sometime last year (Europe only iirc). Back then, how I wished it would arrive to the USDM. My prayers were answered. This would be my 2nd option (or 1st) next to the EX30. If my prime EV (solar) preorder goes kaput, this new 500e will be in the running, as my 1st EV.
I’ve been watching Aptera on and off since their original prototype days, and they seem a lot better off and farther along than the old hybrid model they used to have. Switched my preorder to the Launch Edition variant when that was announced just to up my chances of finally getting one. The appeal of never having to rely on refueling infrastructure is strong.
But should that not happen, I’ll gladly stick to the tinycar lifestyle. My current Fiat has been treating me well for the past dozen years, too bad their dealerships keep shutting down around here.
Yeah I am tempted too, to switch to LE. But the only difference from my preorder, would be the Noir wrap and the supposedly “robust” and higher wheel pant ground clearance Off Road Kit (though I don’t go off roading). I kept this pre order (non Launch Ed), since I’m not that far really from the Carlsbad HQ/factory. SoCal would get earlier deliveries (according to Chris Anthony…) probably post-2k Accelerator participant unit deliveries…
I really like this new 500e styling. It is actually one of my favorite small EVs. I’ve seen around 2 of them in person, in Prague (was in a 5 city EU tour last March-April). Btw, speaking of EVs I visited the “House of ID” in Dresden aka Die Gläserne factory. The place was amazing. Back then when I joined the only English tour, that former VW Phaeton factory only churned out 38 ID3 per day. Hilariously slow…it more of a showcase VW factory.
Never take car companies at face value. They make lots of noise and do the exact opposite of what they said.
Agree. I think they make negative news in hopes of making the competition stop so that suddenly, their EV’s have little competition.
If there is going to be a cabrio version, I may just have to buy one. I’ve been wanting an EV convertible
Mini has one, only one so far.
$33k and no tax rebate vs $38k - $7500 for a model 3 for example.
but no Musk. and we’re not sure we’ll qualify for the tax break this year. AND the tax break drops in january, right?
The Fiat 500e has loads more charm than a Model 3.
Fiat 500s were never really “rational” choices in the US; they were always on the pricey side considering the size of the car; they’re in the same niche as Mini Coopers here; they aren’t cheap for their size, they aren’t very practical, but they are fun to drive, and the personality and charm they have is hard to find anywhere else, and that’s why people get them.
Getting a car like a Fiat 500 is more of a heart decision than a brain decision, and I get that, not everything in life has to be logical if it makes you happy.
The “Musk is a loony and Tesla does some shady shit” tax is definitely a thing.
A lot of folks would gladly pay a few thousand extra to have a car made by someone other than Tesla.
I’d gladly pay a lot more for anything that’s not from Stellantis.
Not only is the company only a fair-weather EV manufacturer, but they’re also responsible for some of the worst vehicles on the road today. The 500e may be right for some people, and I don’t hold it against anyone who likes the 500e. But for me, it’s a hard pass.
Yeah, my understanding of Fiats in general is that they’re unreliable death traps. Therefore, I see a lot of them for sale on the shady car lots here.
Higher MSRP than the Bolt, unknown range, no tax credit, foreign parts and probably no one local to work on them, and Fiat reputation. Very hard pass.
Welp, Bosch pretty much made the '13 - '19 Fiat and not Fiat/Chrysler so they were great little e-rockets.
The actual Fiat cars made by Fiat, that’s a hard pass.
I had a 2013 500e and my neighbor had the ‘regular’ 500 it was Night and Day difference in quality, fit, finish, reliability. (I drove it for a month after he moved and waited for me to bring it to CarFax? to sell)
The Mrs. would love a new (up to) 199 range? Fiat 500e and the Cabrio would be the cherry on top for her.
Plus, are there really any Fiat dealers left in the United States? My understanding was that Fiat is a ghost of a company here.
Even for those folks, the Volvo EX30 is coming and has >2x the range of this Fiat for only a few thousand more. I’m glad we have more options, and this will surely appeal to folks who want a small fun car, but it’s not going to sell big volume or compete with anything currently on the market.
I’m one of them! A car is a big commitment for me. I’m not gonna roll the dice on a company that may or may not be able to back their product a year from now because of the antics of their CEO.
An insane corporate leadership is especially concerning because of automatic over-the-air updates and Apple-style repair exclusivity.
If Toyota goes insane tomorrow, my car will still drive just like it did before, and the mechanic down the street can fix it. Not so with Tesla, and the risk of them going insane is quite a bit higher.
I got no beef with Tesla, its the shitty drivers of Teslas that I have beef with. They’re some dumbass motherfuckers. Speeding, no turn signals, tailgating, hogging charging stalls and not plugging in. Worst humans on the planet.
That’s a very small number of people, and most of them post on Reddit which means they are not representative of the population at large.
Yeah $TSLA is trash and paying for one is paying the trash owner and excusing his abhorrent public persona.
I’m in an Ioniq 6 because I wouldn’t be caught dead in one of Elongated Muskrat’s cars
Also, what do you think about the Ioniq 6? Looks like a great car but seems fancier than what I want.
Apparently this comment earned me my first “Reddit Cares” message, so thanks I guess?
I can’t believe that’s still a thing. I haven’t been bombed by those in awhile.
Ioniq 6 was mostly out of consideration when I was buying because it wasn’t out yet, but coincidentally Hyundai was also caught employing child labor in the U.S. around the same time.
Tesla loses the 7500 tax rebate in a month, when it drops to 3750.
Amazing that you can say this so confidently when in reality you have no clue. None of us do. Tesla marketing sure did a number on you.
Why are we comparing a Fiat 500 and a Model 3? They’re nowhere near similar cars.
The Fiat 500e has loads more charm than a Model 3.

Even the article points out that the rebate can still be applied to the Fiat if you lease. Leasing, if I’m being honest, is probably a better idea with a Fiat given their questionable reliability in the past.
Isn’t the 500e already in the US. I’ve seen a few for sale here in North Dakota
That car is actually extremely reliable. Would highly reccomend. Heats up in the winter in 20 seconds.
Liquid cooled batteries, Bosch components.
Crazy that it says they only sold 500 in the US last year. I literally just saw a '22 500E today on my evening commute.
Nice! I bet dozens and dozens of the future customers are thrilled to hear that news!
Beautiful car. My wife wants one since we saw it in Europe. I like it too, but need more Macho-E
So excited to see a smaller car coming to the US. Now we just need the Portal and Stellantis will really be hopping in there.
Inject it into my veins!
I have been waiting for the new 500e to come to the states. Will 100% be looking into it to finally make the jump to electric.
“Based on FIAT’s website, official 500e specs (and possibly range info) are scheduled to be announced next week on December 4th.”
So basically no news… waiting for repost when there is actually information to share that is actually news worthy.
cant see it being very different from the versions offered elsewhere.
NACS v CCS would be the only surprise, really.
Did the 500e even have CCS? I thought it was only the J1772 charging inlet.
I drive these all the time using car sharing apps. They’re a hoot to drive and perfect for city outskirts driving
I won’t consider any US EV that doesn’t use a NACS charger. The CS1 chargers are so unreliable and that charging experience is way more important than most other features.
I’m glad we’re getting more models though.
The true joy of showing up muscle cars off red lights in my clown car. Great urban commuter
After 5 years of driving mine (bought used), I’ve since traded for a Bolt, but it was a fun car. Would still have it, but life changed and required more range often enough to make the switch.
Circumstances at trade in favored me, the trade-in offer, 100% of my purchase price. Doubt that ever happens again.
