I went to a hyundai dealer once to look at a kona - they didnt have an electric one but let me check out a regular one. they did spend a lot of time showing me the Ionic5. and then reached out to me twice a week for months.
But recently a used EV lot opened up in my town - really nice guys!

LOL NOOO! My 16 year old stick shift mazda5 was supposed to have a blown head 18 mo ago but the dealer was wrong. i’ve been salivating since then, and i havent even test driven one yet. but i think if i can keep my car running, i should do the major home repairs we need first. I’m thinking of going used at first, but not sure the value is there
it is being discontinued and then brought back but on the new platform, so it wont be exactly the same car

I stopped by a used EV lot 2 weeks ago. The sales guy (who spent almost an hour chatting with me) said he has a tester that gives him all sorts of info about the batteries, including what kind of charging its been using. he said the only batteries he’s seen with significant degradation have been air cooled - like the Leaf and the e-golf. So he wouldnt recommend those. that made me feel a lot more comfortable.
So there is a national Electric Vehicle association with local branches. I dont even remember how i found my local branch, but Iv’e been to a few of their meetups - one at an earth day event in a park, one at a coffee shop on a saturday morning. There were owners there really happy to show you their cars and talk about what they liked about them. And then a used EV lot opened up in my town a few months ago - I stopped in 2 weeks ago and spent an hour chatting with the sales guy and sitting in cars (I just wasnt in the mood to test drive). So look for similar local resources!
I live outside of Richmond, VA in a fairly wealthy suburb. I wasnt very aware of EVs until 18 mo ago when i was told (incorrectly) that my head gasket was blown and I started looking for a replacement. So now I notice.
When I’m at the Whole Foods near me, there are always several EVs in the parking lot - but probably not more than 5 or 10% of the cars, max. When I worked at the DMV downtown I rarely saw any in the employee lot.
So definitely still seen as a luxury car here, i think.
I still cant believe the pickup will be available before the PEAR when the PEAR had been promised long before the pickup was announced. I also am wondering if the pickup will also be made at the Lordstown plant, which we havent heard any updates about in a while
but no Musk. and we’re not sure we’ll qualify for the tax break this year. AND the tax break drops in january, right?
