Looks like we have 2 so far.
- The Lucid Gravity-looks amazing.
- Subaru Forrester-ICE.
My question, why would a OEM spend all the effort to get PR on a gas car. To me personally its like boasting old tech. ie Apple using usb-c. Maybe im biased.
Because Subaru’s EV is trash.
Because the vast majority of people on the planet are still buying ICE cars, that’s why. If there was zero demand for ICE vehicles, you’d be seeing nothing but EVs. But that’s not what’s happening. Companies build what market demand tells them to build.
I was there. We really only got the Gravity, EV3 and EV4 concepts, plus Sorento PHEV. Santa Fe has a PHEV but doesn’t sound like North America will get it.
- Totally agree! Someday I’ll see one in person, but probably not soon…
- Because they don’t have EVs except for the Solterra and need to make money in order to keep paying their workers and shareholders.
The Gravity is what Lucid should have started with

Because people are still buying Subarus, that’s why. Right now, Subaru doesn’t really even need the Solterra to continue to be successful. They coast on their reputation. My first car was a Legacy wagon.
They also redesign their cars on a five-year cycle, which is more frequent than most.
I don’t mind them advertising ICE. I do mind muddying the truth.
Gotta disagree with that sentiment. Feel like this is actually a good way to differentiate between their offerings.
We’ve always used the term PHEV (Plugin Hybrid Electric Vehicle) take away the plug and it’s HEV. I don’t see the problem. Remember Marketing/Advertising is about communicating things as simply as possible and connect to consumers with meaningful verbiage, not about explaining technicalities.
Toyota refers to all of them as EVs, or electrified. Meant to confuse people into buying ICE.
The Forrester absolutely crushes it with parents, outdoorsy folks, and people who deal with winter and may live in the middle of nowhere. ICE is still king for many.
They announced a hybrid version for the 2026. Very curious if it will be PHEV.
2023 year to eat Subaru has sold over 120,000 Foresters to date. That’s their third best selling model and 25% of their volume. Of course they are going to keep marketing it.
I mean Apple was forced to use USB C they did not want to switch.
point being its nothing to brag about. hence comparing ice to usb-c
But that’s dumb, you’re making a dumb comparison
Subaru has a committed fandom.
I think the Gravity just looks like another amorphous blob. Very minivanlike.
Because the CUV segment that the Forester is in is the biggest consumer segment on the market.
