We have to earn the right to play our style of football. That means winning duels, recovering the loose balls, and then we can crank up the pressure. Newcastle will be flying into every challenge and Arsenal need to match that. Duel winners all over the field for Saturday. 4 CB back four with Tomiyasu at LB, Rice at 6, Havertz up top to challenge their CBs aerially. (However I do think Arteta will start Eddie up top, Havertz and Odegaard in the 8s)

Tbh we thought same at Everton and he went the opposite way, and played ball players everywhere and it worked.

But I agree with you but don’t think it will happen.

We definitely have an issue with the LCM this season but I feel like it’s unfair to blame Havertz tbh. We signed him to play a position he didn’t play in because they believed it’d work that’s much more on the people who signed him if it doesn’t work than him. I think the issue is that odegaard’s creativity has been basically non existent as well so the midfield in general just offers nothing in terms of creating chances.

If we’re playing teams we’re meant to beat especially at home I’d just play Odegaard and Vieira maybe switch their sides at times and let them rotate mostly but this weekend for example you basically have to play Jorginho and rice or rice and Havertz for defensive help.

Arteta should just take the L on his Havertz-midfield experiment and move him up-front as a back-up to Jesus and use the money that we are ALLEGEDLY planning to spent on a striker and buy a good midfielder who is actually a midfielder.

Do I want a relegation fodder quality sideways passing DM that has clearly shown he can’t cut it in an attacking side? No of course not. I’d take jorginho on a 4 year contract over him

I don’t like Arteta not playing young players in a League Cup game. There was no reason for Saka, Odegaard, Rice and Martinelli on the bench and Ben White to start. You can say “Arteta wants to win all games” but when you lose 3-0 with a strong squad, that doesn’t hold value.

At one point due to lack of opportunities, talented young players wouldn’t want to stay at Arsenal.

How come only Ode and Jesus are interested in coming back from the frontline to request the ball?

We lost yesterday because we had 2 hiders playing at 8. That’s it.

I can understand on the left with the inverted fullback is there. But Vieira ending up so high up and creating a moat between attack and defence, but also between himself and Reiss…is frustrating.

He should be sold. Period. I don’t see a future for him in the PL. Complete luxury player who somehow has no real luxury skillset.

It is pretty concerning that none of the 2nd string players in our squad are even slightly threatening the spots of Arteta’s first choice. We got rid of a lot of deadwood just a few months ago and it was a painful exercise.

Also, Havertz - hindsight is 20-20 but it’s difficult to say right now that this transfer has worked.

Didnt even need hindsight to see it was potentially a bad signing. Even the kai defenders and truthers now source of faith is in arteta and not the actual player himself

Yeah. Xkaha needed a few seasons. Odegaard needed almost one year. Partey also needed time. Rice has been great but still need to work on a few things as our 6.

So let’s not give Havertz time. Having played for a shit Chelsea team for 3 years as a striker, he should obviously come here and be an amazing midfielder./s

I really don’t know how much time he needs. Maybe he becomes a quality player for us eventually. But there are plenty of players who have moved to a new team and hit the ground running. And for £65m, you certainly hope someone to hit the ground running.

I agree, for that fee you’d expect a player to play well. But some don’t. And playing midfield for us is not some easy task. We know a few struggled.

You don’t expect a player like Timber who came from Ajax for that fee to start performing right away, but he did.

Grealish went for 100m and didn’t perform immediately.

Grealish isn’t really a good example because he is still not doing anything exceptional to justify that price tag.

My point isn’t about justifying the price tag. It’s about the fact the price tag doesn’t dictate how well you play. We as fans expect players to play very good if the fee was high, but it doesn’t work like that. The players doesn’t decide how much they go for. Grealish did well last season, but it doesn’t justify the price tag.

We as fans have to learn to separate the price tag from the player.

Your comment makes no sense. That is literally how it works. The only reason to pay more for a player as compared to another is because you think that player will play better than the other option. Otherwise there is literally no reason to pay more if everyone is as good or bad as the other regardless of price tag.

Tbh it was the final thirds the problem.

Changing your front 6 doesn’t help with that.

Personally saw enough with ode saka and martinelli coming on to be less worried.

It always difficult making 7 changes and hoping it clicks right away.

We saw this in EL last season, no one stood out.

But playing 1-2 of those that start with the first 11 it works fine.

Look at the weekend game, we changed 3 players and it was good.

Really surprised by how many Arsenal journos seem to be furious with that result, even the usually level headed ones.

Not saying fans can’t be pissed at losing but this type of result always happens. City dominate the league cup because they’re the only team who can make wholesale changes and still perform at a decent level but even then they got caught out by Newcastle.

we have depth but it only works when Arteta drip feeds them into the starting 11, yesterday it was too many changes in one go. We can’t use the random team generator like Pep, yet.

Our depth is decimated by injuries and looks far worse than it should be.
      jorgi <–> partey
      zina <—> timber
      vieira <—> ESR

And that game looks a lot better. I’m not sure about who would be depth and who would be starting between zina/timber/tomiyasu but I believe if timber was playing we’d have a better lb in this game!
