I mean, I’m not saying that there was any corruption or explicit instruction to give them a penalty, but even the minor thought that a certain club’s state-owners might pay me/hire me more often can be incredibly enticing.

Like you said it doesn’t even need to be about corruption, the reason most employers won’t let an employee have a second job without permission is simply because they want to ensure that their attention is 100% on their job.

What I don’t understand is that it’s really quite an easy fix. Go through all the refs and make a list of any possible conflicts. Do your best to ensure they don’t officiate games with teams with said conflicts. Am I missing something?

Does anyone else find it ridiculous that a Manchester United fan tries to find a tenuous reason why their team were beaten by a vastly superior one?

A goal disrupts the game and rhythm. When the opponent gets one of the softest penalty calls at your home ground in a derby right before half time when the score is 0-0. United played okay up until that goal. After that, the manager goes in at half time and tells them that they can’t sit back and wait for a mistake. Every player starts presides higher and that’s when the defense gets isolated, because the midfielders won’t track back and because they are tired. The manager made poor substitutions that killed the game. In the second half, the fullbacks were both isolated in 2V1s and that’s how they scored the two goals. After that, Man City the best possession side in the world just had to keep the ball. Combine that with our poor pressung and emotional outbursts from players we were destroyed.

They were soundly beaten by possibly the best team in the world.

Did pep cheat to become a generational talent as a manager? NO

Did the city players cheat to become as good as they are? NO

Was that team assembled unfairly by breaking FFP rules? QUITE POSSIBLY.

Are the refs biased toward city? IT LOOKS BAD THAT THEY WORK FOR CITY’S OWNERS.

In a game of fine margins, any advantages count.

No, actually. I haven’t got a horse in that particular race but it’s clearly a conflict of interest.

Eh, I was pretty sure we were gonna get beaten. This is about more than a single match, or even a single decision. This is about the integrity of the Prem

They need to pay ref’s better first of all, but FIFA or UEFA needs to have a proper review of its rules pertaining to ownership and conflicts of interest. Nobody envisioned that countries would be getting involved, the systemic risk is too great. It doesn’t matter if referee’s like Paul Tierney have actually been influenced by UAE, or Saudi Arabia, the conflict of interest is there, the potential for corruption is there, that is enough to ring alarm bells and put a stop to whatever might be happening.

I mean, the UEFA affiliated refs aren’t doing too badly on about £200k a year? No point worrying/comparing it to the players because they’re different professions entirely.

but epl refs make between £38,500 and £42,000 plus 850 a match. probably less than the groundskeepers do.

I find it ridiculous that everyone still chooses to blame the ref for giving a foul that was a foul rather than blaming the player for a lazy silly foul in the box.

Yet people are still trying to justify their shit, City deserve so much more hate than they get

Let’s stop hating on each other and EVERYONE gang up on City

Yeah. Funny how Totenham and Liverpool fans keep arguing with each others when right after that Arsenal got roped by the ref.

I think Tottenham fans will probably change their tune soon now they’re actually playing well enough to look like they might cause city issues this season. If they get certain officials some “unfortunate” refereeing mistakes might be coming their way soon enough.

We’ve already had some questionable decisions go against us, just as Liverpool have had them also go in their favour this season but honestly who cares? There’s no conspiracy, just refs of questionable ability like any profession.

The reason we won’t win the league, or even get close, is because beyond maybe 12 or 13 players our squad lacks the required depth. It won’t be because of some corrupt ref helping Man City.

Being a fan doesn’t mean living in cloud cuckoo land. Look at the mess Ange inherited, look at how long it’s been since we last won a trophy and look at the resources available to Liverpool, City and Arsenal.

This seasons aim was never to win the league, and it would be very unfair to put that expectation on Ange and the squad now. Especially after 10 games. We’re doing brilliantly well, much better than any Spurs fan expected.

Being a fan is about being behind the team and club through thick and thin. It’s not about just expecting instant success, that’s just being a glory hunter. I signed up for a season ticket again this season despite living hundreds of miles outside of London and putting up with all sorts of shit last season. I didn’t do it just because I thought we’d be winning.

I guess we just have different ideas about what being a fan is.
