  • I don’t have enough info to be meaningful but ChargePoint was the one non-EA I needed to do my cross country drive and other than it being 60kWh it worked just fine. Wasn’t terribly expensive for a 45 minute charge. There is also a free ChargePoint L2 at my mom’s apartment and because I had the app for the previous visit I was able to just tap my apple pay and it started the charge. My home charger is ChargePoint as well and they share the app but I don’t need to use it once I set it up to charge during off peak hours.

  • I went with the i4 but I entertained the Ioniq 5. It’s the fast charging speed of the Ioniq 5 that appealed to me, but ultimately I wanted a did want a sedan or grand coupe.

Now oddly, I think the Ioniq despite being a crossover platform feels very Golf/GTI and the ID4 doesn’t have the same energy as VWs I’ve owned or liked.

I did do PCD of my i4 and then drove across country, it was my first exposure to DCFC charging and I kind of got a feel for who was driving various cars and the other thing was Ioniqs were mostly driven by 25-35 sorts while the ID4 was driven by 55+ types. And yes, as some people may have mentioned the Ioniqs are in and out in 15 minutes while the ID4s are there for an hour.

  • I drove 3500 miles on delivery of my i4. Mostly on I-40 which was great, except Kingman, AZ where I already had an overnight - and apparently Memphis - where I didn’t even try because my hotel had L2 charging. However, driving up North on I-5 once I got to CA was incredibly disappointing, most of the chargers were de-rated and several had queues (they did work though). I did make it all on EA, and only had one non EA stop the entire trip (not counting L2 charging). Total electric fuel cost of a cross country trip was 10.50. Not bad at all.
