If he’s predestined by (the) god(s), then you don’t need to vote, (the) god(s) will make it happen. Voting actually is sacrilegious, you don’t think they’re able to appoint him themselves? Oh, ye of little faith!

at this rate it’s only a matter of time before he says something directly treasonous and gets picked up by the FBI before the election

Something more treasonous than armed insurrection at the Capitol to prevent the transfer of power away from Donald Trump?

His lawyers argued that he should be so much above the law that he could order a political assassination of another American and face no consequences, and he won that case and the Supreme Court said that his official acts were immune from prosecution.

Here he’s saying out loud that voting will be unnecessary in the future. The FBI will do absolutely nothing to stop him.

The Jan 6th coup attempt involved an estimated 2k-2.5k people entering the Capitol. I can’t find a good number on how many folks were attending the rally beforehand.

Hypothetically speaking, though? if similar numbers of Americans (we’re talking less than one three-hundred-thousandth of the population) got righteously angry about the Supreme Court and decided to act, I don’t think they would even need to be armed. And I’m not saying that hypothetical action should happen, or that would be right, but it would likely be a lot more justifiable.

I understand what you’re saying, but if the will of the people gets loud enough, it will be done! Advocate locally and make sure to vote!

The new byline from republicans when you bring up democracy is to start an argument that this country isn’t a democracy, it’s a republic. Never actually addressing shit like this.

I remember when that point was brought up as a criticism, not a positive trait.

Being pedantic to avoid answering a question doesn’t mean you have a good answer to the question.

When they try to pigeonhole the complex governing system of this country into a single term, it’s showing they don’t even know what they’re talking about, they’re just being contrarian.

You could play that clip of him saying “I’m not a christian” and they will still think he is their chosen one.

Surely, across the millions of people who support him, there’s at least 5 or 6 who heard that and were like, “wait a sec…”

Sadly there were probably also 5 or 6 who heard that and were like, “No more annoying voting? Hell yeah, brother, I’m on the Trump train now!”

This should be a disqualification of his candidacy. If you’re openly saying that you’re going to end democracy, you shouldn’t get to participate in the democratic process. Granted, it’ll just make the next person not say it out loud, but still, democracy should only be for people who want to participate.

Democracy is as much a matter of the political culture as it is a matter of the political rules.

In a society with a democratic culture, saying you want to end democracy already is a de facto disqualification - only a handful of people in a democracy would vote for such a candidate. The problem the US has is that 40% or so of the electorate appear to be culturally hostile to democracy. They will vote fascist regardless, they view elections as only having value to the extent that they’re a mechanism to elect their candidates and enact their policies, and they can’t fathom the legitimacy of any election that results in their side losing.

Donald Trump: “Christians, get out and vote! Just this time – you won’t have to do it any more,” the Republican former president said on Friday night at a rally hosted in West Palm Beach, Florida, by the far-right advocacy group Turning Point Action.

“You know what? It’ll be fixed! It’ll be fine. You won’t have to vote any more, my beautiful Christians,” he said with a slight shake of his head and his right hand pressed against the left side of his chest.

Let me fix this for him:

Donald Trump: ”Christians, get out and vote! Just this time – you won’t have to do it any more [because voting won’t matter next time],” the Republican former president said on Friday night at a rally hosted in West Palm Beach, Florida, by the far-right advocacy group Turning Point Action.

“You know what? It’ll be fixed [so I can’t lose again]! It’ll be fine. You won’t have to vote any more [because I’ll rig it so I can’t lose], my beautiful Christians,” he said with a slight shake of his head and his right hand pressed against the left side of his chest.

There we go. This makes his intentions a bit more clear.
