Thinking about getting a EV. Just curious why you got yours. The reasons I can think of are:

  • Environmentally friendly 🌵
  • Cheaper Fuel ⚡️
  • They are cool/trendy 😎
  • Lower maintenance 🔧

Is there anything surprising that you found out after you bought it?

My previous employer had EV chargers out in front of their main building. At an “all hands” meeting, an employee asked when the company was going to provide free gasoline to be fair.

The president explained that not everyone could use every benefit and that employees were free to get EVs if they wanted free fuel.

And that is what happened. Several people bought EVs and we started having congestion at the charging stations. So, we created a mailing list of EV owners on our company email. If someone needed a charge and the spots were full, they would send an email and someone else would swap parking spaces with them.

an employee asked when the company was going to provide free gasoline to be fair.

It’s already fair. This is someone who didn’t realize that equal isn’t always fair and fair isn’t always equal. Your president’s response was spot on.

My company has a half dozen L1 chargers (installed about a decade ago) but our EV driving group has expanded so much it’s crazy (about 25% EV drivers) so I’m pushing to get a dozen L2 chargers installed. We have over 50 EVs parked in our lot every day, and that’s after all the carpooling and van pooling we do. Not every employee can take advantage of all those benefits but it’s fair for all those benefits to exist.

We have only three 7kw chargers now sadly but only about 12 people per shift so amongst the EV drivers and PHEV drivers we manage well.

I also consider a Tesla M3P a luxury EV just based on the battery capacity lol
