Toyota makes good engines and their ASIN transmissions are very reliable if you change the fluid + filter on time. However my experience with Toyota suspensions is that they are abysmal junk!

Four Toyota vehicles all garbage suspension! And Garbage Seats!

2014 Matrix had to get rid of it due to how shit that ride quality was. Unbearable to drive it. Every small crack in the road telegraphs through, feels like you are riding on gravel road all the time. Not too many miles nothing wrong with the actual suspension had the car inspected by several shops. It’s just how it is.

2016 Corolla. Same issue, rides like absolute horse wagon with no suspension to it.

2021 RAV4. Slightly better, don’t feel cracks in the road but do get annoyed by every small pot hole. Shock went out under warranty at 30K Km (replaced for free by Toyota).

2022 Corolla. Same crap as any other Corolla total junk suspension.

Is it that hard to put in better suspension Toyota? Like you can’t make better struts and shocks with better damping?

And no I do not have oversized rims with skinny tires on them. OEM factory wheels.

My 2011 junk Ford Focus rides a million times better, handles much better. I did replace all struts and shocks on it at 160,000 KM mark and they were still in perfect working condition! I could have easily driven another 40-60K on them. Still have original ball joints and control arms at 200,000 Km with no play or issues. Ford suspension is much better.

Also Toyota stopped putting in sound insulation into the door panels as a cost saving measure. And now the cars are super loud at highway speeds. My Matrix was so fucking loud I hated it on the highway. This is partly due to hatch back design as hatch backs are much louder. But could have easily been solved by installing $500 of foam insulation but I am too lazy to take all the seats out and strip the carpets and open up door panels to get it done. This should just be done at the factory. Sure the cost will be slightly higher but not that much higher when mass produced it will probably be no more than a few hundred dollars more per car.

I know why Toyota does this. It’s not a cost saving measure to put in shit suspension and no sound insulation. It is purely done to make you purchase a Lexus instead. If Toyota put on Lexus suspension and sound insulation your shit box Toyota will essentially be a Lexus (minus interior differences).

So it is not a cost saving measure it is pure marketing.

My Focus SES has insanely comfortable, very thick leather seats. The seats on the 2021 fully loaded RAV4 are complete pieces of shit compared to my Focus. Toyota seats give me back pain on long trips!

I do not get back pain driving my Focus.

Ford has a lot of issues like crappy engine mounts, bad bearings, etc. But at least the car is comfortable and pleasant to drive. I turn a wrench and do my own maintenance so these minor issues do not bother me. Ford parts are dirt cheap (used to be), I replaced the water pump with OEM part from the dealer for $69! OEM EGR valve is $121. Go and ask how much a Toyota EGR valve costs. And no mine did not go bad at 200K I am just replacing it as preventative maintenance since they all go bad with time.

Replaced Tranny Fluid, Filter and pan gasket for 2016 Corolla. You know how much that fucking cost? Almost $300! And that’s just for parts. Special synthetic fluid, filter that took two weeks to come in, bi-metal pan gasket. And I had to fight the parts people they did not want to sell it to me trying to convince me I do not need to do this service that it is a life time CVT fluid and filter that never needs to be changed, that they do not stock these parts and have to special order them, blah blah blah. Told them to order it or get the manager, so they ordered it.

Ask any Fluid Engineer about “Life Time Fluids”
The Engineer’s Response will be: 🤣🤣🤣

I fucking hate Toyota!

2014 Matrix and 2016 Corolla have the exact same suspension, torsion beam solid rear axle with macpherson strut up from.

2021 RAV4 and 2022 Corolla have the same suspension setup IFS and IRS. If you think a 2022 Corolla rides like a 2016 Corolla then you may be stunned like Willard.

Sorry to say, but trucks are luxury vehicles now. Older Toyotas are real utility vehicles. The Tacoma and Hilux can be beaten to hell and back and it doesn’t matter how the ride feels, it works much better.

Lexus ride quality isn’t that much better…there’s something about their suspension tuning that is harsh and doesn’t filter out the initial impacts very well.

My Lexus NX on factory 18" wheels with the AVS suspension even rides worse than my Macan on 20" wheels…which just seems wrong.

My shit box Focus is even cheaper than a Corolla and rides fine. It is a bullshit excuse!
Not everyone wants to blow 60K on a Lexus or a Mercedes! Yes I can go buy a Merc right now but I do not like setting my money on fire.

Then why didn’t buy more Ford shitboxes and continue to buy 4 Toyotas when Ford had such great suspension.

You knew you hated Toyota’s suspension, so why buy three more? Masochist much.

My Focus has 200,000 on it. And it gets me to my destination just fine. Toyota Reliability is an old Myth! Sure that 90’s Camry is still on the road. But it is not the same quality today. Toyota is just coasting by on their reputation at this point. In 10 years people will finally catch up to this bullshit and goodbye Toyota. While the Koreans are making improvements to their cars every year, sure they are shit mostly but they are getting better and better every year.

Hybrid Toyota’s are still used as taxi. Auris, Prius and Corolla are probably the most popular choices of taxi drivers. I don’t think it is a myth. Seriously now - what did Toyota do to you? Your rage has to be based on some bad experience.

you should head over to any mechanic forum where people are paid to work on cars and let them know toyota reliability is an old myth. 😂

every manufacturer has it’s pros and cons. Domestic cars can’t match the consistency of reliability of many Japanese cars (not just toyotas). Domestics try to make up for this with more modern features or better “bang for the buck”. It’s not that Domestic manufacturers can’t be reliable but if you went off of averages you would find that most Japanese imports last longer with less failures and there are always exceptions to this. we hace a 2012 focus we bought new and it’s on its 4th transmission and it’s had 2 sets of calipers replaced all by 90k. we also have a 2010 yaris with 100k and the blower motor is starting to make mild noise.

the ford is quiet and smooth but based on its rate of decay it won’t be great to own in a few years. if you value ride quality, value and features then your ford is a good choice. in my area after all the crown vic taxis died they all bought Toyotas and some Hondas. i was in a prius taxi on the way to the airport with 700k. it looked like crap but still served it’s purpose.

My 2007 limited tundra rode like an old caddy and I loved it. My wife’s 2016 Tacoma SR rides like crap in comparison.

Of course they’re going to try to steer you into the more expensive vehicles because they make more money when you buy them. That’s basic marketing 101 and literally every company selling you something wants you to buy the more expensive variation.

My 4runner is solid, the suspension is quite soft in them though from factory, but there are tons of affordable options for better. Certain trims also come with fox suspensions which are even better.

4Runners are solid cars. It is the last Toyota to be fully built in Japan.
It is a unique car and very expensive.
But for what it costs you can buy a Merc or a Lexus.

Yea you can’t complain about the Corolla not riding well since it’s an economy car. They don’t sell because they drive well. They sell because they get 35+ mpg and last until your 60. You had one that rode really bad and still bought another one? All your car purchases except the RAV4 is the same damn car lol why would you think they would be any different?

I think after I kill this Focus. I am just going to buy an F-150 Crew with Fox Suspension and 36" Tires. I actually hate large tires but there is no other option, if you want the Fox suspension on the F-150 it only comes with 36" Tire Package.

My dude, Toyota is utilitarian and you have to buy a higher model and trim for comfort, that’s just how it is. My Limited 4R is pretty damn comfortable. Gotta think, most of us aren’t buying Toyotas for comfort but rather reliability. If you love your Focus, go enjoy it for 100k until the drivetrain takes a shit.
