It’s like how I want a regular cab mini tacoma with a 8ft bed. I think it would be awesome, but I’m not sure there are too many other people that would buy one.

They should just bring back the 5 lug Tacoma with nicer amenities. Who would have guessed eight years after it was dropped from the lineup that people would be clamoring for its return?
My wife’s 2016 SR access cab with the 2.7 gets 20-22mpg pretty easily. I’d imagine a 5 lug variant with the new 6 speed auto and an air dam could squeeze out 25+ mpg.
The only thing people need to keep in mind is that the 2.7 paired with the modern 6 speed auto is gutless compared to most modern vehicles. I know people lust over the look of the maverick, but to get better mpgs than the new Tacoma, you’re not going to be going anywhere very fast with a standard internal combustion engine. For any decent performance you need a turbo or hybrid system and even then fuel economy isn’t guaranteed. Everything comes with trade-offs.
My FJ just rolled over 200k miles last week and my wife’s 2016 Tacoma that takes 0w-20 has somewhere around 152k miles on it. My wife bought it from my brother-in-law to help him out and I know that dumbass didn’t change the oil every 5k.
For what it’s worth, I change my oil every time the light comes on, for me it’s 5k miles, and use whatever weight is printed on the cap. I’ll be shocked if I don’t hit 300k miles on the original engine with my FJ or the taco of my wife decided to keep it that long.
Do you bro. It’s your investment. I just use whatever the manufacturer recommends because I trust in Toyota engineering. Plus my tinfoil hat makes my head itchy.
My 2007 limited tundra rode like an old caddy and I loved it. My wife’s 2016 Tacoma SR rides like crap in comparison.
Of course they’re going to try to steer you into the more expensive vehicles because they make more money when you buy them. That’s basic marketing 101 and literally every company selling you something wants you to buy the more expensive variation.
The pre-Mazda ones are quality economy vehicles in my opinion. I don’t have any experience with the 2016+. Change the oil every 5k miles and replace the rest of the fluids every 80k miles and you shouldn’t have a hard time getting over 200k miles out of the older ones.
