Toyota makes good engines and their ASIN transmissions are very reliable if you change the fluid + filter on time. However my experience with Toyota suspensions is that they are abysmal junk!

Four Toyota vehicles all garbage suspension! And Garbage Seats!

2014 Matrix had to get rid of it due to how shit that ride quality was. Unbearable to drive it. Every small crack in the road telegraphs through, feels like you are riding on gravel road all the time. Not too many miles nothing wrong with the actual suspension had the car inspected by several shops. It’s just how it is.

2016 Corolla. Same issue, rides like absolute horse wagon with no suspension to it.

2021 RAV4. Slightly better, don’t feel cracks in the road but do get annoyed by every small pot hole. Shock went out under warranty at 30K Km (replaced for free by Toyota).

2022 Corolla. Same crap as any other Corolla total junk suspension.

Is it that hard to put in better suspension Toyota? Like you can’t make better struts and shocks with better damping?

And no I do not have oversized rims with skinny tires on them. OEM factory wheels.

My 2011 junk Ford Focus rides a million times better, handles much better. I did replace all struts and shocks on it at 160,000 KM mark and they were still in perfect working condition! I could have easily driven another 40-60K on them. Still have original ball joints and control arms at 200,000 Km with no play or issues. Ford suspension is much better.

Also Toyota stopped putting in sound insulation into the door panels as a cost saving measure. And now the cars are super loud at highway speeds. My Matrix was so fucking loud I hated it on the highway. This is partly due to hatch back design as hatch backs are much louder. But could have easily been solved by installing $500 of foam insulation but I am too lazy to take all the seats out and strip the carpets and open up door panels to get it done. This should just be done at the factory. Sure the cost will be slightly higher but not that much higher when mass produced it will probably be no more than a few hundred dollars more per car.

I know why Toyota does this. It’s not a cost saving measure to put in shit suspension and no sound insulation. It is purely done to make you purchase a Lexus instead. If Toyota put on Lexus suspension and sound insulation your shit box Toyota will essentially be a Lexus (minus interior differences).

So it is not a cost saving measure it is pure marketing.

My Focus SES has insanely comfortable, very thick leather seats. The seats on the 2021 fully loaded RAV4 are complete pieces of shit compared to my Focus. Toyota seats give me back pain on long trips!

I do not get back pain driving my Focus.

Ford has a lot of issues like crappy engine mounts, bad bearings, etc. But at least the car is comfortable and pleasant to drive. I turn a wrench and do my own maintenance so these minor issues do not bother me. Ford parts are dirt cheap (used to be), I replaced the water pump with OEM part from the dealer for $69! OEM EGR valve is $121. Go and ask how much a Toyota EGR valve costs. And no mine did not go bad at 200K I am just replacing it as preventative maintenance since they all go bad with time.

Replaced Tranny Fluid, Filter and pan gasket for 2016 Corolla. You know how much that fucking cost? Almost $300! And that’s just for parts. Special synthetic fluid, filter that took two weeks to come in, bi-metal pan gasket. And I had to fight the parts people they did not want to sell it to me trying to convince me I do not need to do this service that it is a life time CVT fluid and filter that never needs to be changed, that they do not stock these parts and have to special order them, blah blah blah. Told them to order it or get the manager, so they ordered it.

Ask any Fluid Engineer about “Life Time Fluids”
The Engineer’s Response will be: 🤣🤣🤣

I fucking hate Toyota!

My dude, Toyota is utilitarian and you have to buy a higher model and trim for comfort, that’s just how it is. My Limited 4R is pretty damn comfortable. Gotta think, most of us aren’t buying Toyotas for comfort but rather reliability. If you love your Focus, go enjoy it for 100k until the drivetrain takes a shit.
