I have this issue in my 4R, and it seems like having AC on and recirculate off solved it for me. Apparently the recirculate overstresses the defrost, at least in my case. That’s on either defrost or foot/defrost.

My dude, Toyota is utilitarian and you have to buy a higher model and trim for comfort, that’s just how it is. My Limited 4R is pretty damn comfortable. Gotta think, most of us aren’t buying Toyotas for comfort but rather reliability. If you love your Focus, go enjoy it for 100k until the drivetrain takes a shit.
