I booted up my LCD deck today, after using my OLED deck for a couple weeks. The same game felt laggy, the fan noise was significant, and the track pad was frustrating to use. The whole deck felt clunkier despite being the same dimensions, due to being heavier and having a larger bezel. Interestingly, the image quality of the LCD holds up just fine, though. In a side-to-side comparison I could tell the difference, but qualitatively my game looked fine.

  • The trick with the screws is to gradually back them out together, 1-2 turns at a time. All the YouTube videos tell you to take them out one at a time, but that’s poor technique. What happens is that the tension on each remaining screw increases as you remove them, and the necessary amount of torque significantly increases. It’s manageable if you have a perfect screwdriver bit, but if you don’t then the screw head strips out instead. By backing them all out gradually together, the tension remains evenly distributed across all of them.

Notice that when people post, it’s always the “last screw” that happens to be stuck?
