  • Early 30s, US.

Technically I learned how to drive manual when I was first learning to drive, but then everyone in my family got rid of their manual cars. I didn’t get a car of my own until I graduated college and got a cheap beater for a gift that was auto. I’ve never had a manual car of my own and since it’s been over 15 years I don’t think anyone would want me to test my skills on their clutch, but in an emergency I could drive one.

I thought about getting a manual for my next car but my wife is just learning to drive and it’s already very scary for her, so I don’t think I will add that to her stressors. She’s also early 30s, US, but born and raised in a major city so never had to drive. I’d like to sign us both up for manual lessons later on though.

  • Hope this gets some more engagement as I’m going to be in the market soon for a new pair.

I bought the AKG N400s a while back, and they’ve lasted for a few years without major issue. The left one has started to lose volume, but I’m going to try cleaning it thoroughly with alcohol as that has solved the issue before, but the solve doesn’t seem to last that long anymore.

I like but do not love them. The touch controls are wildly inconsistent and after this much time barely work at all outside of tapping to pause. They were never very intuitive or responsive in the first place, but the sound quality and comfort were good enough that I didn’t return them. I’m not sure if their newer models have solved any of that. I also hated that I needed to turn my location on to use the app at all, as it “couldn’t connect” without that even though they were already paired to my phone. I also didn’t like the lack of preset EQ settings, as it would be nice to switch between settings for music vs narration quickly without needing to do a whole self test.

The battery life is pretty solid but I think true wireless has gotten better in that department across the board since then, and the charging case was small enough that they could go most places without a problem. They fit very well once I tried out a few combos and found what worked for me.

I mostly use them for working out, as wired sometimes can get in the way with various lifts, like squats. But, I still needed it to be pretty good for all around listening to books/pods/music, and they have been solid for that. I am not an audiophile tho, so others might think of their sound as subpar.
