I’d previously sworn I’d never buy another gas car and then my golf died.
Initial reasoning was purely environmental. Work already paid for 100% of my gas, so there are no fuel savings for me.
Now that I’ve had one, I’d add the following reasons: they are quiet, smooth, warm up super fast in the winter, and I never have to freeze my ass off at a fuel pump in winter anymore.
I’ve used V2L in several power outages to keep my fridge, freezer, fish tank and wifi running, along with some lights and charging laptops.
I’ve also used it to run power tools when out and away from any outlets. Most recently an angle grinder, but have run a table saw and circular saw as well.
Can also run a shop vac for cleaning the car.

I agree with you… we only have single 50kw stations every 100km or so where I live. Summertime weekend travel leads to lines 3+ cars deep. If I have to wait 2+ hours to plug my car in at your station, you bet you’re getting a negative review. Build more!!
I had the exact same thought… our heat is set to 20 most of the time. 25 would be hot!
I love my Ioniq 5, but yeah… we got shafted on interior quality in Canada.
We had a Golf before the hyundai, and would have looked at the Id.4 first, but at the time the Golf died, VW canada wouldn’t sell the ID.4 on the east coast.
The base model City Golf we had had more soft touch plastics and less of a cheap feel than the like $50k hyundai that replaced it. Also had paint that didn’t chip off if you looked at it funny.
The hyundai wins in charging speed I suppose, and V2L is awesome. Run my fridge, fish tank, and wifi in power outages. Have also run tools like grinders and tablesaws when not near an outlet.
Agree with all this, just adding that the grizzl-e duo is another option for a charger/evse you could place in your garage in the “simple switch” scenario.
Sometimes my wife will ask me to explain technology things in great detail when she’s having trouble falling asleep.
I’ve used several different pcie to nvme adapters, including cheap Amazon ones. They’re doing pretty much nothing except connecting the pcie traces from the NVMe drive to your pcie interface.
They’ve all been reliable and work well.
