Raya also gets plenty of “what he’s being asked to do is soooooo complicated” cred, which Ramsdale also had to do yesterday and he suffered from a 100% clear hold (w. no VAR), and a brutal deflection that looks worse than it is because it went over him.

Someone’s criticism for him yesterday was “He should yell louder after the goal is conceded.” Like, there’s no VAR, that doesn’t mean shit.

Mikel’s an absolute genius, but he’s also a stubborn maniac at times and I think the man would be benefitted by easing up at times.

It’s OK, he got lucky, we don’t need to pretend it was good or part of the plan. Mikel likes people to play in a way that maximizes control. That’s all good, but that doesn’t mean that he wants his GK to make the wrong decision and gift goals.
