It’s hard to put an exact number on the value of being in CL, but it’s easily 10s of millions, more depending on how far you go. For the last 13 seasons, they’ve qualified for the CL, thereby pushing another team out. You’ve got to be looking at £500m in liability there.

That’s all with the massive caveat that a court has to find this sort of suit to actually be viable. It’s a difficult case to make, and I wouldn’t want to go up against City’s legal team.

It’s not just about what they “deserve”. It’s staving off corruption, and also attracting top talent to the job. The weak talent pool we have for officials at the top level is clearly evidence of that. You can afford to pay someone shit wages in retail because you can always throw a new body in there when you burn out the others. Not so with refs, it takes years to train up a PL level ref.

And to be clear, I advocate for higher wages for the officials, but hand in hand with greater consequences for huge errors like we’ve seen.

I always love when people talk trash on players as if they could do better. The worst player in the PL on their worst day would make them look like a fool on the pitch. There’s a huge ocean between “Not good enough for our squad” and “total garbage”

Seems like he’s out there living the dream. Fairly decent footballer, signed to a top club, gets the odd minutes here and there. All while living in one of the best cities in the world. I’d be smiling all the time, too
