2023 - Messi had no reason for winning this one just because he performed in seven games. Seven games where the ref was heavily in favor of Argentina the whole tournament when the Man City treble was more impressive than Argentina winning a rigged WC in a rigged country bid. It was clear that the WC in Qatar would be rigged from the start, if they could bribe officials to let them host, they could just as easily bribe officials to let Argentina win this sham of a tournament. I personally think Haaland was a ghost in every final he played, but he won the treble, and that is a lot more impressive than anything Messi had done this season.
