I mean bro is manhandling opponents and calling them “bobo” and stuff 😂. Like as a Barca fan who’s watched him my whole life, I’m not going to say he was timid his whole career, but this dude is a whole new person from the guy who lost the WC in '14.

What happened?

Yeah. It’s crazy watching Messi picking a fight with 20 year olds lol. He’s definitely gotten more aggressive over the years, which have built up to this.

He finally developed some confidence. /s jokes aside, this is likely related to him finally leading the national team to the WC.

He was always like this, people just chose to focus on Cristiano Ronaldo’s outburst because Messi was marketed as the saint.

I’d understand if it was CR7, Modric or Benzema who were being disrespectful towards him, but Ugarte and Rodrygo? I’d be furious, those are kids man, who are not even on the top hundred of good footballers in the world. Imagine being called a coward by someone who lost to Colombia, not even Marquinhos can utter those words but it had to be some kid who plays for Real Madrid. I don’t blame him

He’s always been like this. You don’t get his career without being a fierce competitor and he curses like crazy. It’s just on reddit most football fans are UK or USA based and don’t understand Spanish. The rest of us who do, have known this about him for a long time. Part of what makes him the legend he is

He’s never been a model citizen, Ronaldo cries on the pitch has kicked out once or twice, never does anything like what Messi does, but Messi is the good quiet boy, shit is weird

Being egotistic is pretty key to become great tbh. People who always hold themselves to a high regard and make an effort to improve just bcause they want to be the best is a characteristic found in most professional athletes.

For the “bobo” comment I’ll just say that is one of the mildest insults out there, like, thats how a child treats another child, he said it after a heated WC match so do not think that is a really heavy examole of him being unsportsmanlike.

But deciding by himself that argentina would not play, bypassing the referees, his own coach and the president of AFA was pure arrogance, I mean, I see where he’s coming and I agree that the match shouldn’t have been played with the violence happening in the stands, but you gotta communicate at least with the authorities of the match instead of making a scene
