Not so much that EVs need two motors but that it’s only practical for ICE vehicles to have one. This ICE vehicles need drive shafts, transfer cases, etc.
Registration - not higher everywhere
Opportunity cost - I dont really agree with this one. Of course there are opportunity costs, but that applies to any purchase. I think this just further confuses things.
If you have access to home charging, and EV will definitely save you money in operating costs. If you are looking to justify the cost of the car with these savings though, you won’t. Cost savings is just one factor to consider.
For me the takeaway here is

Then the sales person told you about a rebate. I’m the owner of a Tesla and looking to replace our gas vehicle with another EV. Im open to any other brand but not looking forward to dealership bargaining and “market adjustments”.
Road-tripping experience in an EV varies greatly depending on location and EV. Having done several trips from NY to Florida, New England, and Midwest in my Tesla, there has been no ball sucking whatsoever.
