I had an old school friend I visited in Chicago, and her apartment had a locked door in her bedroom against the back wall, and her landlord had just said “it’s not used, just ignore it.” It didn’t even have a doorknob, so she had just ignored it for like 3 years. The building had been there for like 100 years.

Naturally, after some alcohol, I convinced her I could lockpick it, and we pushed her bed to the side and I spent about ten drunken minutes picking the deadbolt. We finally got it open, and discovered it was a straight-up small elevator! None of the lights or buttons worked, and we were worried about it falling, so we got out of there.

To this day, I’m not sure if it was an old building elevator for residents and her room had been a hallway, or if it was some kind of (very small) service elevator, or something for the ADA (handicapped requirements). But it was absolutely fascinating.

  • I was a huge Star Wars fan before Disney took over, and haven’t liked anything they’ve done with it. Most people agree, with 2 exceptions: Andor, which I admittedly haven’t watched yet, and…Rogue One

I don’t think Rogue One is much better than the other Disney Star Wars drivel, but I’m apparently the only person in the universe who thinks that. I’ve watched it three times and just don’t get why people think it’s good.

  • There’s like a billion sources, but I think in the story, the horse was supposedly left by the Greeks as an offering to the gods (Poseidon?) for safe passage home across the sea. And then the Trojans saw the Greeks had left, and stole the horse to fuck them over.

But the Greeks had anticipated that, and were lying about leaving anyway. They knew if they left it there, then the Trojans would steal the horse and bring it into the city, so they hid inside and then sprang out to kill the guards and open the gates for the rest of the army. So it wasn’t a gift for the Trojans. Also, I think somebody did say that it was a trap, but they were ignored or killed somehow

  • I read this as “is one of the opposums” and had a whole head canon about this beautiful artistic opossum struggling to make it in the world by selling her art on street corners, before finally being recognized for her brilliance and having the world accept her despite her species. Then I looked at the image again, noticed the name, and re-read the comment. It’s too early for my brain.

  • Fantastisch Geschichte!

“Er ist ganz schön dehnbar” = “He’s a stretchy boy”, LOL. Es tut mir leid für mein schlechtes Deutsch.

  • The old C&H comics are so inconsistent. Sometimes I just read it and “yeah, I get the joke, but meh” or “that was dark then but aged very poorly,” and sometimes I read it, then 2 seconds later I burst out laughing. I don’t really why this one is funny, as it’s literally just shitting on someone and then subverting expectations, but it had me giggling a lot.

  • This screenshot does not do the actual cheese eating justice. They basically put cones on the contestants (like the ones that you put on your cat/dog to keep them from licking after surgery), then grated Parmesan directly into their mouths for a minute to see how much they could eat. And they were competing against their previous best, which had competed against their previous best. It was chaos. Game Changer is an amazing show
