1 year agoI personally never turn it off.
I’ve had several cars over the years with start/stop and I don’t mind it at all. In fact I quite enjoy the silence when I’m stuck in traffic or at traffic lights.
If I don’t want the engine to stop because I’m at a junction, roundabout, or something else then I just move the gear stick into sport and it won’t shut off.
I use eco pro quite a bit when I am stuck in traffic, driving my kids to school etc. I find it makes a tank of fuel last quite a bit longer overall, although I have never done a more scientific comparison of it. If I use eco pro I can get up to the 600 mile range out of a full tank of diesel in my X5.
It does definitely make the car slower and more ponderous, but if I’m stuck in traffic anyway it really doesn’t matter. The pleasant side effect is that when I put it into sport mode the car briefly feels like a Ferrari.
I genuinely don’t mind eco pro (or automatic start stop) for regular driving in busy traffic, but then if I’m honest with myself I’m probably just getting old and boring… which kind of sucks.
