To be honest we have 18 goals and 11 big chances, it means that we have scored goals off penalties and deflections and have been significantly luckier. This is not sustainable…. If I was Arteta I would be worried that we are lacking firepower in the striker department and our reliable creative players aren’t delivering as they used to. Odegaard and Saka haven’t been the force they were last season. In fact our players aren’t in top 10 in goals scored and assists.

Defensively we are solid now… but come January transfer season, he needs to add some power to the frontline.

This may sound unpopular and I am no way shitting on the manager or the team, just a stat that I am trying to wrap my head around…. Happy to be change my mind.

Yea anyone whose been watching the games can tell you we’ve been scraping by.

The mood changed after we beat City because obviously we were excited to have taken down a juggernaut.

But the fact remains, most of our wins this seasons have been very unconvincing

Partey needs to start. Rice is a great number 6, but Partey makes the machine tick. Rice needs to be in a box to box role to emulate Xhaka

Does some of it have to do with how teams set up against us? On top of our team not feeling cohesive I can see how our chance creation has dropped.

It’s because big chances come from progressing the ball through the center of the pitch, and we aren’t doing that. We often return to the donut of doom where the ball goes back, or wide, so we need to have central midfielders able to carry, or spread the ball through passing forward rather than wide.

The fundamental question in professional data-driven football betting is that of autocorrelation vs regression to the mean. Does doing worse than previously indicate that your new normal is worse, or that you will eventually return to a higher level.

In this case what’s clear is that we need to create more chances. The issue is whether you view it as:

we’ve been lucky to get relatively good results with poor chance creation and need to pay better.

    or

we’ve gone through a bad patch of form but still managed to pick up some good results, when performances return to their expected level we’ll be laughing.

We’ve been missing Jesus, Saka and Martinelli for weeks at a time, in fact, the first minutes they’ve played together was vs Chelsea. Purely data driven though, it isn’t looking good, especially overlaid with our field tilt and possession stats…

What are the underlying metrics? How are we performing regarding xG and what are our xPts?

Honestly I feel we need a proper number 9 who can score 20 - 25 goals a season. While I love Jesus, I feel he’s more of a squad player ( low conversion rate + highly injury prone + lacks consistency) and I’m sorry but Nketiah just isn’t good enough for Arsenal. He just doesn’t fit. Ideally I would like to see someone like Ivan Toney come in and be clinical in the box.
