I’m not autistic, nor have I ever gravely injured someone through my own action (or inaction) that I know of, but I will tell you this: I don’t understand how these attention-starved children driving these rice burners with their goddamn POW POW UNF POW exhaust systems (and you fuckers know what I’m talking about) are allowed to exist.

I am not a violent person, but I would read their obituaries with great satisfaction.

As a former rider who had a very quite bike and almost got killed by a driver, I totally understand the desire to have a noisy bike. Noisy bikes save lives.

Noisy bikes piss off your neighbors. Loud pipes DON’T save lives, they make people hate you. Car cabins have become quieter over the years and all you do is get louder for no reason.

Want to be safe? Follow the rules of the road. Don’t weave in and out of cars. Be predictable. DON’T lane split. Be visible (don’t wear all black at night). These are the only types of bikers I ever see.

If Reddit and Lemmy have taught me anything, it’s that if ACAB then AMAA (All Motorcyclists Are Assholes)

I never did any of that stuff, nor does anyone I know. A minority of, often younger riders, give a bad impression.

You can be as safe as you want but when another car merges into you on the highway, there is nothing you can do other than evasive manuevers and hope that you don’t get killed.

Want to make the roads safe? Actually enforce distracted driving, it’s almost as if not just as dangerous as drunk driving, and we take away licences for that. Retest drivers and riders every 5 years, and every 3 years for anyone over 65.

Just like with police. A minority of bad cops give all cops a bad name.

Same can be said for a truck merging on to a person in a car.

Yes. But we’d need a more robust mass transit system or walkable towns/cities. I’m all for that, but not everyone is.

I wouldn’t push a woman down the stairs, but I could see myself writing an essay on why only dumb people can tolerate loud noises and that being loud should be made illegal.

I’m an immigrant in Germany and my boss (from here) recently asked me if it was a jerk move to do laundry on a Sunday if she checked with her neighbors first.

It made me realize I’ve been such an unintentional asshole. I’ve been avoiding things like carpentry and band practice, not laundry. There’s a guy on my street who mows the lawn before nine in the morning on Sundays though, so I’m not the worst in my neighborhood.

I don’t think anyone actually cares about washing machines on sundays, as long as they’re not running after 22:00 … though YMMV based on how anal your neighbors are and how much they hate you.

Also, fuck lawn mowing and leaf blowing in the morning. And all those assholes who accelerate their cars and motorcycles loudly for fun.

Excessive noise is bad, violence is worse. Moral licensing for escalating is a hell of a drug.

Contrast Charles Babbage, who was actively harassed by deliberately shitty street musicians, whose business model was to be paid to fuck off.
