Thinking about getting a EV. Just curious why you got yours. The reasons I can think of are:

  • Environmentally friendly 🌵
  • Cheaper Fuel ⚡️
  • They are cool/trendy 😎
  • Lower maintenance 🔧

Is there anything surprising that you found out after you bought it?

    1. Less maintenance. No oil changes. No transmission. Less frequent brake changes. Less shit that can break or leak.
    2. Cheaper fuel.
    3. Quieter cabin. No engine noise or vibration.
    4. Fast/quick.
    5. Environmentally friendly.

Nit-Pick here (ignore me if you wish) A drive-train (set of fixed gears) and a transmission (variable gears) are not considered the same thing in engineering.

Almost all EVs use reduction gears in a fixed differential. Only the Taycan/Etron have a true transmission like an ICE does. EVs, generally speaking, do not “shift”

If you haven’t found out yet, you should probably know that your EV both has a transmission(s) and will need oil changes. They are simpler and require less frequent maintenance, but it doesn’t mean they’re not there.

This is my list, as well.

Everyone thinks EV folks are enviro treehuggers, and the environment is a great reason to get an EV, but it’s an afterthought when you look at other features and benefits.

Brake maintenance yes yearly minimum… Have had to service them twice because they rusted and failed from lack of use. 🙄 The caliper is expensive(1 is 10x cost of pads) I would rather the cost of brake pads getting worn down. And fast/quick in a straight line only.

Move 3 to 5 because I didn’t know better yet and I’m with you. I’ve got two other vehicles, a 1950’s tractor, a house, and long gravel road to maintain. My car needed to be one less thing to have to deal with.
