With the new version of the steam deck having Wifi 6, is there an improvement in remote play with Chiaki or other remote play programs?
Not really. There isn’t enough data flowing to saturate the original Decks WIFI capabilities. Assuming all the variables are factored out like WIFI strength, interference, other traffic on WIFI, etc, there is no discernible difference.
Latency and stability matter way more than bandwidth for game streaming (bandwidth barely matters honestly, if you can watch netflix then there’s a good chance you have enough bandwidth for 800p)
Are you sure there is no latency benefit? This is one of the stated advantages of WiFi 6 over 5 is better latency
I removed variables from my post. I did that because there are so many factors at play here it would be impossible to list all the caveats and guess at someone’s WIFI deployment. Optimal WIFI 5 and WIFI 6 setups would have no noticeable difference for game streaming. WIFI 6 will handle connections better when some of those variables are introduced. It also depends on the source of streaming as many programs deliver the stream differently.
So, in a roundabout way, WIFI 6 is going to be better at handling connections which can improve the streaming experience… depending on setup. Is it going to be some magical improvement over WIFI 5 if you have it set up properly, no.
I have the 512GB and used to have to set the bitrate abpit 15k -22k on my old Steam Deck and on the new one it’s on 30K and I haven’t had any greeb flashes or interruptions yet or that weird rainbow effect shit yoi’d see where it wouldn’t go away unless you looked at something else. For the moment to me it seems very improved. I’m just on a 5GHZ network.
At least the input lag is a bit lower due to the OLED screen if nothing else.
