Hello friends,
I want to upgrade my NVMe from 512GB to 2TB. What NVMe models are considered the best fit for the Deck right now? What are your experiences with upgrade to 2TB?
I picked up the WD black 2tb for $169
I have a corsair 2TB, going well so far.
I actually had a huge upgrade in install speeds on the original LCD by going with a 1TB SSD. The OLED was different because the included SSD was faster.
Thing is, that doesn’t mean much when, as other people have said, the Deck is limited to PCIe 3. So it comes down to power efficiency and price. Right now, Best Buy is selling the WD SN770M for ~$160, and that’s your best bet.
Maybe a dumb question but the sd only fits 2230 sized ssds?
Give me my nose back
I enjoy my micron 2400 2tb. I haven’t noticed any extreme power draw but it does have really good speeds. I’ve seen steam install things at over 600mb at points. But most of the time I’m bottlenecks by the download speed so my ssd is typically at 60mb/s cuz that’s how my WiFi is.
i ordered one of those 2TB WD from aliexpress
May not be the cheapest, but Best Buy is currently selling the Western Digital SN770M for $170.
I got it earlier this week, along with an enclosure that can hold a 2230, and did the cloning process upgrade.
Took about 2 hours from start to finish. Went from 64gb to 2tb and am stoked at all the games I can add to it now.
I went with a Team Group one, best bang for your buck
Just ordered the 2TB SN770M for store pickup from Best Buy after reading in the comments it was on sale. Just in time too. Literally planned on picking up a 2TB Inland 2230 from Microcenter later today for the same price as the Samsung SSD. Same MC drive was $20 less before Tuesday of this week. They raised the price due to the influx of purchases more than likely. If it was still at $150 I just would’ve went with that instead as I’ve never had issues with Inland drives.
I bought the Micron 2400 2TB a while ago when it was on sale somewhere, before iFixit started selling them on their web site. The Steam Deck upgrade went smoothly and I haven’t had any problems with it since. The stock 512GB is in an external USB enclosure now.
Edit: Corrected the link.
WD 2TB M.2 2230 PCIe Gen4 NVMe SN770M
Doesn’t really matter as long as you get reliable brand, you won’t be able to saturate it in real world use between gaming and downloading games.
I believe are some with lower power draw, but it’s negligible
I bought this one back in April and haven’t had any issues.
