I do think this will change quickly if Qualcomm’s ARM chips are as fast as the M2 Max like they claim. And there’s reason to believe it, as they’ve bought/hired Apple’s head of processor development.

Considering the M2 Max GPU is roughly equivalent to a 3080 mobile or a desktop 3060ti at significantly better efficiency, I think the demand for monolithic could explode practically overnight.

Assuming some x86 to ARM translation gets most things running.

Doesn’t really matter as long as you get reliable brand, you won’t be able to saturate it in real world use between gaming and downloading games.

I believe are some with lower power draw, but it’s negligible

As someone who dual boots currently, performance is pretty much on par with SteamOS. Performance is not an issue.

Also, the current dual boot setup process is literally exactly the same as on any other laptop or desktop. Sort out partitions, startup to BIOS, boot to installation media, install. Literally no workarounds involved, it’s a bog standard standard dual boot process.

But baked in partition resizing and bootloader for easier switching would certainly make the whole process easier.
