    Owned mine for 5 years. I got it at MSRP

    Its the best car I’ve ever owned and will probably own for a long time until I’m an old man and can get my Porsche

    0 issues after 5 years btw. Just regular maintenance

    Man it would be nice to read some thoughtful comments about the CTR on this sub that weren’t all about ADM in the US. Lots of countries don’t have the same fucked dealer laws and we can get these cars (with some waiting).

    I love my new CTR, handles like an absolute weapon.

    Why does this car exist? It’s slower, more expensive, and less efficient than all of its competition. Even a base 4 cyl mustang is better in every measurable way.

      It is essentially purely a track attack car. It is not good for drag racing. It has to perform at high RPM’s for long periods with a lot of turns, like a track. Also daily drivable with it being a hatchback. I get it

    My dad owns an FK8 Type R, and so I have quite a bit experience being in it, and I just really can’t get over how much they calmed down the styling. The old Type R was just ridiculous looking, which was awesome, the new Type R looks like a Civic with a bolted on wing.

      Isn’t that almost every Type R every before FK8 and the weird hatch in the 2010s. The FG chassis literally was a body kit over a regular civic.

    I personally wouldn’t define one year ownership and long term. But that’s just me. Still an interesting take on the car, and all of the work they did to interview engineers, etc. And I like Sg; I follow them.

    Interesting to hear Mark and Jack use of a lot of the same words they use to describe modern BMW to the Type R. Lackluster steering, synthesized engine noise, fancy diffs to put the power down, competent engine that pulls hard but may lack the noise and theatre of older engines.

      I’m not sure if the lack of sound applies to the b58. Just with a dp it sounds amazing. After adding an exhaust, I don’t listen to music anymore.

    It’s not a bad car. It’s certainly an improvement over the prior generation, which was obscenely over styled and look like a child’s toy. But for that kind of coin, there’s definitely other things I’d prefer

      While the last gen was over styled, they do seem a bit of a bargain now considering they have depreciated and the new one is significantly more expensive.

      Their performance is very similar.

        I agree the performance is definitely similar and there is a value proposition there for used models, but I still have to look at a car I drive everyday, and I just can’t get past the looks. But that’s personal preference of course, and looks are subjective

        For all the people that said it was overstyled and that they’d “buy it if it didn’t look like a transformer”, in my lifetime I have yet to see a single FK8 ‘un-riced’ let alone un-winged yet I see a dozen 10th gen Si/sport hatchbacks with the Type R wing a day

      Have you seen a dyno chart? In a Hondata video, the engine makes more than 220lb-ft at 2000rpm, 355lb-ft at 2900rpm, peak torque of 359lb-ft at 3400rpm and stays over 300lb-ft between 2500 and 5600rpm.

      The character isn’t high-strung, so maybe it’s the boost level that you’re concerned about. 27psi peak boost sounds high until you realize million-mile semis are pushing up to 32ish psi daily.

    They’re absurdly expensive. I was looking for a CTR or ITS and they were just as much if not more expensive than what I got my Supra for depending on the dealer.

    As a Honda owner, I hate that for the Type R community. It’s gonna be hard keeping a loyal fan base with those markups. They’re not exactly cheap

    This is an example of hype turning a car that’s excellent in its price bracket into something on the price range of simply better cars. For $50-60K USD there are great condition Porsches (now with factory infotainment upgrades to add AA/Carplay), and even if you step down a few grand on one to account for higher ownership costs, it’s still just a better car. When the markup on a CTR puts it in the price range of the Integra Type S, a car that makes no pretense about being a spicy street vehicle vs a track weapon, you start to wonder who is buying these things and if it’s not just a bunch of influences trying to break even with that markup from YouTube/TikTok views. All these hot hatches are great cars at their MSRP, but their purpose is defeated when the price exceeds that.

      The Caymans and 911s aren’t nearly as practical as an economy based hatchback. Don’t forget that maintenance cost easily doubles and you’ll be out of warranty. A PDK rebuild will financially break if you if it was a stretch purchase. If I only could have one car, 9 times out of 10, I’d take the Civic.

        PDK in the 718 and 911 are surprisingly reliable and stout. Very rare they’ll need a rebuild ever if not abused.

    Good video. I’m curious to see how Mark’s ownership experience pans out over the next year. In looking for a new car I’m giving consideration to a Miata, OG M2, or a ITS so I am quite invested in this series.

    The steering feel is a non-issue, personally. Everyone I’ve talked to (non car-people) do not notice the lack of feedback or love how refined it is. So I’ll take what I can get really, I just need the steering to be direct, and only the slightest bit communicative. For everythign else I got the E30.

      The steering is good for a modern car. It’s not totally dead, but not something you will think about after you get out of it.

        Steering feel is greatly improved with additional camber and getting wider non-stretched tires but all that gets it to average/above average range not amazing but that’s bmw
