Recently bought a c4 corvette cause it seemed like an underrated performance car with a good bang for your buck value. Thing is I’m used to driving an economy car. What are some tips for a rwd and relative high power car? I’m coming from a hybrid econobox so yes it’s vastly different.

Find somewhere local that you can do autocross to learn the car’s behavior on the limits. Or just a giant empty parking lot with no cameras and not much traffic so you can use it as a skid pad.

depending on the year of your C4 corvette it will have between 205 and 300hp

I assume since you got a good bang for your buck, it wasn’t a later model with 300hp since I’d assume those fetch a premium, so you are probably looking at a 245hp car.

now that car is 35 years old, so a lot of those ponies left the barn by this point. And again, good bang for your buck probably meant it wasn’t the most well maintained.

So you are probably sitting on a whopping 200hp at this point.

So that’s 200hp at 3250 pounds…for comparison purposes the BRZ has 228hp at 2815 pounds and is considered a dog by pretty much everyone

In other words, if your tires were built in the last 10 years, you’ll probably have trouble even breaking traction in the rain

It’s a 88 so your right about the power but it was a 2 owner car in mint condition …… just cause you’re salty that you can’t get a good deal doesn’t mean you need to downplay someone’s purchase. Either contribute to the question or keep your opinions to yourself.

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. The C4 is not underrated, it is purposely ignored because the C5 is light years ahead in terms of performance. The C4 Corvette is a bargain because it is so disappointing. At least with the C3 you can get a classic looking car.

It also has V8 torque and a torque converter automatic gearbox. It is probably much more competent than a 86/BRZ

If you give it a little squirt on the highway then back off, keep an eye on your speed or hit cruise control straight away. It’s very easy to let things creep back up and with a performance car police estimate the speeds so much higher or get a wrong radar reading and dont question it.

kick the rear out frequently(when there’s space and no one around), so you learn how to control it when it happens.

otherwise, if it’s a manual, don’t give it so much throttle coming off the clutch

Go to some autocross events to get a feel for the car or a track day if you can

the best advice I can give is look into auto x or track events in your area. If Porsche Club is active near your their events are the safest I have found

You’re not wrong. It has about the same 0-60 as a new Miata. The C4 isn’t underrated, it’s just purposely ignored.

Beautiful present. Please do not abuse it, it would devastate him to see it crashed. Just be gentle with it and you won’t crash. If you want to “mess around” do it somewhere safe.

Learn where the point of tires break loose is, first in straight away, then corners, next apply wet. Best place to learn is a snowy parking lot with no curbs, you will be drifting S curves in no time, be safe, in a way you are doing research to become a better driver by knowing how to control a vehicle.
