I’m assuming most people here have had a dreams of playing in cup final scoring the winner and such

So how far did you get to reaching such dreams

Did you reach academy levels l or high

I thought of this question because I’ve one of dad’s "oh I could played pro if it wasn’t for my shit knees

Didn’t play at a high level what so ever but played against Robbie Brady who was 14 or so at the time and he was playing under 16s. He was the best player on the pitch by miles. Also played against Paddy Madden who has had a good career in the English lower levels. I played in goal and Paddy scored after about 12 seconds of the match 😳

At school I played in the same team as Quinton Fortune, once, and passed him the ball, once. I also played against him once and successfully tackled him, once.

Before I’m asked to come out of retirement I was also scouted by Leyton Orient, who watched me play one game where I was still wrecked from a night out, and in my head at least I played really well. They also watched me in the next game, when I was sober and crap. They lost interest.

I played against an ex Bradford city player, a Leganes trialist and a former PL striker’s little brother at 5aisde. They were all incredible and made me (a tough tackling cm) look quite silly at times

Rangers youth academy w/ mate. I never lasted long at all, my friend a while longer but still. Moved to a pretty prestigious youth team but my age group folded and most players moved to there rival team who was also really good but I never. My other mate was in hearts pro youth one went from st Johnston to Hamilton. A lot of friends played for Falkirk at various levels and I did play in there stadium a few times. The difference in ‘pros’ and not wasn’t super apparent until in a game scenario, it’s mostly just they don’t make silly mistakes, don’t go far out position and are very efficient in how they run/energy levels.

I trained twice a week with an old queen of the south striker and occasionally with Hibernian old backup keeper (big stuff I know). A few I played with went on to play with good teams one for Hamilton , st Johnston maybe was the best. I went quite far for high school cup too. I gave up because of bouncing between teams and my family never rlly supported it, but I’m still young adult and I’ve been playing more again. I was never stand out compared to the others who ‘made it’ but I played fullback so it’s not easy to be seen. The ones who made it started very very young and the physicality difference is really apparent and work ethic too

Ik it’s Reddit and anyone can say anything but honestly I never made it that high, I’m still really decent & would play again.

The year 3/4 schoolyard football first choice goalkeeper. We had a schoolwide football competition based on the world cup instead of a sports day, I never made the finals.

Level 7 in the Pyramid, can’t tell you how good the best players at this level are! I wasn’t one of them!

Bizarre mix of players with stunning abilities and wasted talent to players who would literally run through a brick wall to get a result.

Once played with a guy who made his debut and scored 4 and he was immense, pace, touch everything, it was daft. We all went to Pub after the game (he didn’t come to the pub) and we just spoke about he was totally different class and was going to win us the league, he turned up the following Tuesday for a mid week game (so we didn’t train Monday) and he played like he’d not gone home since Saturday and he was clearly and massively wasted….

During high school, I played against a guy which later played on a portuguese 1st league middle tier team and then went to play for a team in the MLS. He was a fast paced, techincal winger.

Playing against us in high school he would come out the bench, go through our entire team like we were traffic cones, score 5 goals in 4 minutes and then go to the bench again, not to risk injuries. I consider myself a very decent amateur player, but the difference was gigantic… People don’t even realize on how much pro players are on another level 😅 The player was Gerso Fernandes btw
