Curious what problems snuck up on you and what it took/cost to be repaired.

2003 911 coupe (6MT) with 79k when I bought it in 2020. Water pump (original) was weeping when I got it and had that replaced for about $1,000 with a new serpentine belt and coolant flush. Other than that I’ve only had to do fluids, spark plugs/coils, engine mounts, and a couple suspension bits due to worn bushings. The only other things that have broken have been the vanity mirror covers (both driver and passenger’s side broke off at the same time, common issue on these cars). With all the doom and gloom about 996/M96 reliability, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how easy this car has been to own.

Vanity mirror is an easy fix just grab the $30 pair off Amazon and they should snap right in.

981 GT4. The O2 bung blew out of the cat while driving.

$12k out of pocket later, and I now have a new engine wiring harness, replaced intakes for those that melted, new fuel lines (that fortunately did not melt all the way through), a 2 foot section of the body wiring harness that had to be replaced, new control arm (gasket melted), and new cat.

Thanks. It’s the shot-blasted and polished 18” Carrera II wheels, specific to the 40 Jahre model.

2014 Panamera S - had to replace the rear view mirror this year because it just wore out??? The mirroring was failing on it, it developed spots - just cheaper quality than you would expect

Not a repair cost, but a service bulletin/recall. They had to replace the locking dust cover for the headlight adjustment screw. 2010 Panamera.

997.2 - High-pressure fuel pump went out in July this year. Finally sourced a refurbished one from Europe this week, as Porsche is not making/shipping them and no ETA when. Thankful I live in SoCal, live close to work, and have an E-bike cause the 997.2 is my daily. Power steering column is the only other unexpected maintenance I’ve had in over a decade with her.

Not exactly an expense, but my 2017 targa 4s has been with the dealer’s service department for 6wks straight with no endpoint in sight. Failed water pump, which is being covered under the 10yr extended component warranty.

They replaced the pump a couple weeks ago but it didn’t seal properly so ordered new parts and are trying again. Poor car.

It makes me happy to own a Porsche when I that so many of these maintenance comments are not of Porsches failing mechanically, but rather most are of people who encountered unfortunate circumstances on the road.

2019 991.2 C2 with 50k miles. After a year of ownership both my rear wheel bearings failed for no apparent reason. They said i probably hit a pot hole but that doesn’t account for both sides or the fact it was bad enough but my wheels weren’t bent. The car is CPO and I assumed this would be covered but apparently that is not the case. Try to find actual documentation on the CPO warranty coverages and you’ll find nothing. Fought with PCNA to get it covered but they refused, as did the selling dealer. Total cost was just north of $5,000.

I did fight with my selling dealer early on to cover the cost of new tires, breaks, and a service because they never did a proper CPO documentation before the sale so that kind of balanced itself out. Still….$5,000 out of the blue was not something I was expecting.

991.2 GT3RS car. Front driver’s side brake caliper apparently picked up a rock which wedged/stuck for a handful of revolutions before being dispatched. Scratched a perfect circle around the interior of the satin black wheel. Haven’t had it refinished but I’m guessing $500 when I decide to repair it.

996 cab rear window regulators - plastic bits failed and both broke within a week of each other. >$2k. Most I’ve spent on a repair not related to the drivetrain

987.1- Most of my expenses have been correcting the previous owners ‘modifications’, including restoring the induction system back to spec so exhaust and catalytic converter readings show up and fixing the suspension mods to work- it was missing some of the washers, etc. that was about $4k. Otherwise just general maintenance to replace drive belts for $820.00
