Absolute garbage reliability like all BMW’s
B58 and s58 says otherwise stay mad
It’s a fact. Sold mine to my mechanic.
Didn’t know the interior got bigger and it’s pretty much a van now
Those blue seats are fire ! Leather ? Sensatec ?
There’s so many S85 memes, but never an N63 meme. At least the S85 makes good noise.
Never the S65 meme either. It’s the same engine (with same issues) with two fewer cylinders.
Seriously, the S85 is one badass engine! Sure, it may not be perfect, but that sound wipes away any drawbacks that engine has! This gets me thinking how in alternate universe, imagine if BMW gave the S65/S85 duo another go with refreshed internals and a little bit of hybrid assistance. That would definitely be something special!
The S85 isn’t even that bad. The N62/63 is total junk across the board.
The N63TU3 is a force of nature.
Calling it junk means…you don’t know.
I’m literally a bmw master tech. That shit engine pretty much paid for my old 135i in its entirety.
but go on about how amazing the THIRD technical update is 🤡
I’m not sure why you think engines receiving TUs means that they’re still bad? The injectors also haven’t been a problem since TU3 which is already almost 6 years old at this point. They still weren’t that failure prone before that. You’re just displaying signs of bias with more recent issues compared to the S85 being less prevalent now. The N63 doesn’t have anywhere near the reputation the S85 has.
We’re still replacing a shit ton of them under warranty. Our TSE says another recall similar to the CCP recall is in the works.
Certified e60 moment
S85 is not as bad as everyone says, the problem is that the maintenance costs for the vehicles are very high and therefore they have been ignored by many. How many videos do I see on insta and tiktok where people drive their s85 with smoking tyres and red warning lights on the speedo. No wonder, maintain your high performance engine as it deserves to be maintained and it won’t cause any problems.
Any engine that has rod bearings under “normal” maintenance is a dog. I hear the same excuse pushed by Alfa Romeo masochists, who insist their Giulia is reliable with the exception of that one time their 2-year old car left them stranded and needed a tow for “only an ECU replacement,” but was otherwise trustworthy.
I mean… name another car with 4 doors and an 8250rpm redline v10 that can be daily driven and doesn’t require heavy maintenance?
We’re talking about a v10 engine that can rev up to 8,000. Most cars are driven for over 200,000 kilometres and then you demand that the bearing shells should still hold up? It’s not as if the whole engine has to be taken out, it’s something that can be done on a lift. We’re not talking about a 120bhp 4-cylinder here for everyone. Otherwise you might find an engine like that in a Lamborghini, how many of these are driven more than 100.000? If you buy a car like this, you have to look after it properly. I have two V12 engines myself, do you think they are as easy to maintain as my Daily 6 cylinder?
Why don’t 4 cylinder engines that rev up to 9,000 have the same rod requirement?
Plenty of cars do perfectly fine with bone stock bearings past 200,000, even older M cars. Trying to downplay rod bearing replacement as not a major job is peak copium.
If you had a well-made V12 like a Mercedes M120 then yes it should be as easy to maintain. You’ve just been desensitized and accustomed to overly complex engines.
The S65 has rod and main bearings (engine out) as regular maintenance, but no one shits on the M3s with the S65 tho.
Every engine from the S38B38 onwards except for the S52 has premature rod bearing wear issues due to tight clearances. And no that’s why I don’t think the S65 can be considered “reliable if maintained.” Let’s not kid ourselves, these are high maintenance cars.
I do.
Sums it all up: “Unreliable BMW Owners” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krppvoXXBG4
Seriously, it’s an amazing engine when it’s work but let’s not act like it doesn’t have some major design flaws. Lol
Oh common, sreten daily his v10 and lent it out, he was two times at my place with the car and took me for a spin. That car was treated like garbage by the previous owner and he didn’t pull out the engine only give it a very big service and did every thing that’s possible with the engine in and it’s perfect reliable. Compare it to the B7 or the blown s65.
Yeah, all those videos of ppl revving and doing burnouts right after start up make me cringe so hard
LMAO what, valve stem seals are not “common in performance engines” to fail
N52 reliability Gang
Why’d you say tho?
That sounds about right. My friend had a M6 and for the 2 years he owned it, it was at the dealership most of the time. This was back in 2011, luckily it was a CPO, he sold it before the warranty was over. It only had 25k miles when he sold it.
