Don’t worry. It’s only spilled residual oil burning off…
I’d recommend just doing a full oil change yourself.
If you took it to a quick lube shop. I’m betting they didn’t change the filter, but put the recommended spec of oil in the car without checking lipstick. My reasoning is that it’s not extremely over max. So it’s probably the amount of oil that sits in filter.
Always forget to check my lipstick when i do an oil change.
To be honest and the correct answer is yes let a little out, too much oil can cause it to froth up and start destroying internal engine parts , however imo that much over is not going to cause this but if was one of my daily reliable vehicles yes I would lower it and check after and top off if needed
Were you parked on a flat surface?
That is SO barely above full, it is 1000% fine.
You are smelling what they spilled, not what they overfilled.
This is the correct answer. You aren’t smelling oil because it’s over full, you are smelling it because they spilled a little. If the oil level was really that sensitive you would have an issue every time you went up or down a hill, around a corner, etc. They probably set the oil level immediately after shutting off the engine and you may have let it sit and drain down longer before you checked it.
I looked at the picture and couldn’t figure out why they thought there was a problem.
not only that… that oil is realllllly clean lol.
Plus, let’s be honest, if a person does not do their own oil changes, do they really know how to “remove oil”?
Not to be a jerk, but even terminology. Id say drain rather than remove. It’s oil, not a wasp nest. LolBarely overfilled??? It’s an inch above the crosshatch! Thats easily a quart and a half overfilled. It’s supposed to reach right before the final hole at the top. Here, the level is reaching the part of the dipstick that is twirled.
We lookin at the same picture? 😂😂
Ur an idiot. It’s like a quarter inch above the top dot.
An inch? Is this what they call “boy math”? That’s not an inch hombre.
This is the oil JUST AFTER oil change??
OP maybe my eyes are broken, but I see that as significantly overfilled. The oil is supposed to mark right under the fifth hole up top. You’re reading into the twisted part of the dip stick 🧐. I would guess it would have to be at least 1-2 quarts overfilled to reach up there.
Also an unwritten rule for old dipsticks with the holes, is count the number of holes. This usually indicates the sump capacity. In this case 5 quarts. Now keep adding holes roughly at same distance up to your mark. Maybe 3.5 overfilled?
So yes, you need to pull some oil out.
That’s totally fine. The tech probably got a bit of oil on some part of the exhaust and you smelled it burning off.
Oil looks too dark for a recent oil change
No they likely spilled some onto the exhaust manifold and didn’t clean it up. This will burn off in a few days no problem
Lol tell me you don’t know shit about cars without actually saying so
How is that barely overfilled?
I would 100% drain all the oil out and run it for a few days. Then add some back about 1/3 cup at a time per day.
Just kidding. they spilled oil and your level is good.
Omfg I was like wtf is wrong with this person lmao
you would def feel it if it was too full my dad did that once and my car was rightly pissed about
They probably just spilled a few drops over something that heats up while you’re driving, so it evaporated
