I’ve said it before I’ll say it again, a no-frills EV econobox like the Golf was in its original form would be a huge hit. Doesn’t even need to have killer range, 200 miles would suit me fine. The only gizmo I’d like to see is the ability to use the battery as a power source

      Yes, 1000%.

$20k should be easily do-able for a daily driver.

I am still under the belief that a hybrid is inherently more costly than an EV (with it’s engine, transmission, complicated vacuum, oil and hydraulic systems, etc.), but I know that $20k hybrids are on the market (maybe not in the US, but definitely in Europe).

They’ll offer the e-golf in a base trim at 22k, produce some stupid small number of them, advertise the car starting at 22k, then only make the majority of their inventory at 30k+.

And I say this as a VW fan and owner.

Isn’t this the ID.2 with the ID.1 coming in a few years later at even less?

In 2025 Stellansis are launching the small battery version of Citreon e-c3 for €20k, about 2k less than the Dacia Spring. If they can make it for €20k surely VW can do it for $22k

Wish they added 2k to the price and upped the battery. It really makes a difference when you can’t drive far with an EV. I have the MG4 Delux, 440km and it’s really bare minimum up here in the north since winter draws that down closer to 300km practical range. If you got the car just doing half of that at start it’s just a local driver car, your second car. But most people who need an affordable car, doesn’t want to switch from something that takes them 800km to now doing 130km during the winter. Just too many scenarios where that will make you darn nervous.
