Wow y’all are young. It’s Ashley Cole by several miles.
Gael Clichy (2010-2011)
Damn, I was wondering how come he is not the first choice…
Came here to vote for him but realized it’d be the prior decade. I’m old
Same mate. Just kept scrolling until the realization set in lol
The recency bias won’t allow Gibbs to get near the top, but he should be basically tied with Monreal. Clichy however has been our best lb since Cole.
Saed Kolasinac (2017-2021)
Love how this is downvoted hahahaha wow
Lol. I still remember that stretch of games with emery where he was our best attacking player. Dark times. Not a good player for us but I always appreciated his physicality and effort
Nacho Monreal
This is gonna get spicy in the midfield can’t wait
Heart says xhaka and santi. Ode over ozil
Sagna is the most upvoted (nearly 1k) comment for RB position ahead of Ben White. Unfortunately the previous website I was using didn’t have Sagna so I switched over to another one.
Appreciate everyone’s feedback with suggestions. I understand this isn’t the best way to determine our best XI, but I thought it’s fun activity over Int’l break regardless. Also, try not to upvote more than one player so we can get at least fair representation. I noticed some people are putting 2/3 players in the same comment so it’s hard to decide on those. I will try to put some suggestions in the comments for each position so you can upvote it. If anyone wants to take over or create a poll, I’d be okay with that.
Andre Santos (2011-2013)
Disappointed that I had scroll this far to find the big man
Verry good fan vote today gays
For some reason I always found Kolasinac really entertaining. Shite, but fun to watch.
It was hilarious to watch a man shaped like an upside down traffic cone marauding up the left only to cunt the ball at the first man. Kinda miss him in a weird way
Also when he ran into people, or jumped for contested headers.
I was a bit upset we never gave him a go up front when Auba was cocking about and Laca was injured. Could have been the new Heskey.
This one is way more difficult. Highest performing player over a short time has been Zinchenko but Monreal was solid for a long time, yet never reached the same heights…
Zinchenko clears
Kieran Gibbs (2010-2017)
I know he wasn’t great but you guys need to get him upvoted above Andre Santos at least.
Nacho Monreal (2013-2019)
I think Nacho also would have killed it as the inverting type no
He was a good passer! I always thought he was a bit like a midfielder out there in his movement and passes around corner. Never had license to go central like Zinchenko tho.
It’s either him or cashley
La Cabra EZ
I’m sorry but I’ll have to remind you that defensively we were always nervy with him against big teams.
“The most consistent left back in the preeemier league”
I loved him so much. When he first came over the transfer felt underwhelming, but soon enough I couldn’t imagine him not being in the team.
Am I correct in remembering he was our record transfer at the time?
I disagree, Arshavin was the biggest purchase before Özil. Monreal could not have the price higher than Arshavin
Nope, he was very cheap. Less than 10m pounds. He just wasn’t the typical type of LB from that time. He wasn’t very fast, but man, he was so good. He would hold his own on the left and going fwd he was perfect possession full back.
He was not, he wasn’t even the highest of that calendar year. Nacho was only about €10.00m according to transfermarkt.
Ok I’m remembering someone else. Thought he was around £20mil which was a massive amount for Wenger back then.
I distinctly remember this sub trashing him as not good enough. Which always felt harsh but understandable in that first year. He grew into an absolute machine though.
Has to be Nacho. Such an underrated member of the era
I hate to say it but Ashley Cole was the better player. Do not want Cole to be in there given what a prick he is. Monreal was solid for us.
The best!
La Cabra
La Cabra - aka Monreal.
Super consistent. Big goals. Great player. Never understood why we sold him for as little as wel did
Kieran Tierney (2019-present )
KT gets my vote
KT should’ve been the answer here and it’s so unfortunate that he hasn’t been able to offer what Mikel’s looking for. If you would’ve told me 2 years ago that Monreal was getting 5x the votes that KT is getting on something like this, I’d have thought you’re crazy.
So are morons downvoting players? That’s not how it should work you muppets
