Lewandowski got 47 goal contributions and was placed a mere 12th in the ballondor.Harry Kane is tearing up the Bundesliga this season and last season got the 2nd most goals behind a certain Haaland that was robbed of a ballondor.

I don’t think the premise of your question is true. They both seem to get a lot of respect from what I read and hear.

Kane not being in the top 10 ballon d’or over some who were there is an absolute joke. I think that’s the inspiration for the post.

Also not often you hear Kane mentioned as the best striker of the last decade when he should 100% be in the conversation

Because he skied his penalty 50 yards over the bar in the world cup quarter final. Quite simply, he bottled it

Why do people care so much? It’s impossible to judge players from one team to the next as different systems can benefit certain styles or positions more than others. Then throw in the fact that it’s across different leagues. It’s impossible to judge these players against each other. Just enjoy the quality footy they each bring.

To be fair Lewandowski is already past his prime and I wouldn’t place him in top 10 this year. On the other hand the fact that he didn’t get it in 2020 after winning Champions League was a complete joke

Because the Bundesliga is a farmers league.

Also because neither hail from a Mediterranean country. UEFA bias rules supreme.

Just stating my opinion here, I think that the voting favours the World Cup over domestic or UEFA competitions.

I believe Messi is the goat & the World Cup is the most prestigious competition however the World Cup is only 7 games, an extremely important 7 games but 7 games nonetheless. Haaland in an admittedly stacked city team in his FIRST season broke the record for most prem goals and arguably was the missing piece in pep’s team to get them their first UCL & treble. City were undoubtedly the best team all throughout last season and without Haaland, that task for city would’ve been a lot harder.

Haaland played 53 games in arguably the toughest domestic league in the world & the toughest Club competition in the world. He broke the scoring record in his first season as well as getting top UCL scorer.

Messi’s and Argentina’s WC win is nothing short of iconic and Messi had a stellar season but Ligue 1 is nowhere near the quality that the prem is. Disregarding all the seasons before 22/23, Haaland should have won IMO. I can definitely understand why the journalists would’ve picked Messi though, the story behind the WC win is amazing and given that he’s at the twilight of his career makes the WC win more impressive.

The Ballon D’or award is, in large part, or at times, a popularity contest. The hype that a player achieves within the year will greatly influence the journalists who vote for players.

Because they have a shit PR team. Also because Tottenham never won anything and Lewa is Polish.

Lewa did get it for a season and a bit it was just during Covid so got robbed because of that.

If Kane wins something one season he might place higher. It’s mostly based on what you’ve won that season so, he is always going to be lower.

I think players who just score goals are underrated now compared with 20 years ago, as we’ve been spoiled by Ronaldo and Messi who do that and other things. But I wouldn’t say there’s “no respect” for Lewandowski and Kane.
