Lewandowski got 47 goal contributions and was placed a mere 12th in the ballondor.Harry Kane is tearing up the Bundesliga this season and last season got the 2nd most goals behind a certain Haaland that was robbed of a ballondor.

Just stating my opinion here, I think that the voting favours the World Cup over domestic or UEFA competitions.
I believe Messi is the goat & the World Cup is the most prestigious competition however the World Cup is only 7 games, an extremely important 7 games but 7 games nonetheless. Haaland in an admittedly stacked city team in his FIRST season broke the record for most prem goals and arguably was the missing piece in pep’s team to get them their first UCL & treble. City were undoubtedly the best team all throughout last season and without Haaland, that task for city would’ve been a lot harder.
Haaland played 53 games in arguably the toughest domestic league in the world & the toughest Club competition in the world. He broke the scoring record in his first season as well as getting top UCL scorer.
Messi’s and Argentina’s WC win is nothing short of iconic and Messi had a stellar season but Ligue 1 is nowhere near the quality that the prem is. Disregarding all the seasons before 22/23, Haaland should have won IMO. I can definitely understand why the journalists would’ve picked Messi though, the story behind the WC win is amazing and given that he’s at the twilight of his career makes the WC win more impressive.
